بازار رشت...
قصه دیگری داشت.

۱۸ دی، وقتی مردم رشت برای نجات جانشان به سمت بازار فرار کردند، نیروهای سرکوب جمهوری اسلامی آنها را محاصره کردند و بازار را به آتش کشیدند.
مردمی که به آنجا پناه برده بودند فقط دو انتخاب داشتند:
یا در شعله‌ها زنده زنده بسوزند،
یا با دوشکا هدف گلوله قرار بگیرند.

آن روز و روز بعد، به آتش‌نشان‌ها دستور داده شده بود سر کار حاضر نشوند و آنشب به آنها اجازه خاموش کردن آتش را ندادند.

از مردمی که برای اعتراض به خیابان آمده بودند،
فقط کفش‌هایشان باقی ماند.

آن شب، نیروهای سرکوب هم مردم را کشتند،
هم بازار را سوزاندند.

When Baghdad fell, the people did not take to the streets. Years of conflicting messages and promises from the Bush administration had already eroded public trust and left many Iraqis disillusioned.

The lesson of Iraq was never just about Saddam.

Public trust is the most powerful ground force in any political transformation.

Iran’s window of trust will not remain open forever. Every inconclusive negotiation, every delay, and every contradictory message further erodes this strategic capital.

No army can replace the trust of the people.

And once that window closes, reopening it will come at a much greater cost.
