Every year on June 26, the world unites to observe the #InternationalDayAgainstDrugAbuse and Illicit Trafficking a day established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987 to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
Drug addiction is one of the most complex and devastating public health challenges of our time. It does not discriminate it reaches across borders, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and generations, leaving behind shattered families, lost potential, and immeasurable human suffering.
Yet despite its scale, addiction remains widely misunderstood, and those affected by it continue to face stigma, isolation, and inadequate access to care.
👉The Reality We Face:
According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), hundreds of millions of people worldwide suffer from drug use disorders, while only a fraction receive the treatment they urgently need. Illicit drug trafficking continues to fuel violence, corruption, and instability in communities around the globe, undermining the rule of law and threatening the safety of our societies.
⚡Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery⚡
Addressing the drug crisis requires a comprehensive, evidence-based, and above all, human-centered approach. Prevention must begin early in schools, in families, and in communities through education, awareness, and the creation of safe environments where young people can thrive without turning to substances.
Treatment must be accessible, affordable, and grounded in compassion rather than punishment. And recovery must be supported through social reintegration, mental health services, and long-term community engagement.
It is essential that we move beyond criminalization and toward a public health framework one that recognizes addiction as a disease, not a moral failing, and treats individuals with the dignity and care they deserve.
⚡A Shared Responsibility⚡
The fight against drug abuse is not the responsibility of governments alone. It belongs to each and every one of us as parents, educators, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and citizens.
By fostering open conversations, reducing stigma, and standing in solidarity with those on the path to recovery, we can build communities that are more resilient, more informed, and more compassionate.
On this International Day, let us renew our commitment to a future where no person is defined by their addiction, where help is always within reach, and where every life is valued and protected.
⚡⚡Together, we can make a difference.⚡⚡

Every year on June 26, the world observes the #InternationalDayinSupportofVictimsofTorture a day proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly to speak out against the practice of torture and to honor and support the countless individuals who have endured one of the most severe violations of human dignity.
This date holds deep significance.
It marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) in 1987 a landmark international treaty that unequivocally prohibits torture under any circumstances, without exception.
⚡Torture Is Never Justified,⚡
Torture is not merely a physical act. It is a deliberate assault on the mind, the body, and the soul of a human being. It leaves wounds that last a lifetime psychological trauma, broken families, and communities scarred by fear and silence. Despite being prohibited under international law, torture continues to be practiced in many parts of the world, often under the veil of national security, social control, or impunity.
No justification political, military, or otherwise can ever make torture acceptable. It is an absolute violation of human rights and an affront to the principles of justice, equality, and humanity.
👉Standing With Survivors:
Survivors of torture carry an invisible burden that few can fully comprehend. They deserve not only justice and accountability, but also access to comprehensive rehabilitation medical care, psychological support, legal assistance, and above all, recognition of their suffering and their resilience.
Organizations such as the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture work tirelessly to provide support to survivors and their families around the world. Yet the need far exceeds the resources available. Governments, civil society, and individuals must all play their part in ensuring that no survivor is left without help.
👉A Call to Action:
On this International Day, we call upon all governments to uphold their obligations under international law to prevent torture, to prosecute perpetrators, and to provide reparations to victims.
We call upon the international community to speak with one voice: torture has no place in a just and humane world.
We stand with every survivor. We honor their courage. And we renew our unwavering commitment to a world where every person's dignity is protected without compromise, without exception.
Silence is complicity. Speak out. Stand up. Support survivors.

Today, on International Women in Engineering Day, we pause to recognize and honor the extraordinary contributions of women in engineering — pioneers, innovators, and problem-solvers who have shaped the world we live in and continue to define the world we are building.
Engineering is the discipline that transforms vision into reality. It is the force behind the infrastructure that connects communities, the technology that accelerates human progress, and the solutions that address our most pressing global challenges. And at the heart of this discipline, women have always played a vital though too often unacknowledged role.
⚡⚡A Legacy Worth Celebrating:
From Hedy Lamarr, whose frequency-hopping invention laid the groundwork for modern wireless communication, to Katherine Johnson, whose mathematical brilliance guided NASA's earliest space missions, women have consistently broken barriers and redefined what is possible in engineering and technology. Today, thousands of women across every branch of engineering civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, software, aerospace, and beyond carry this legacy forward with the same dedication and brilliance.
👉Why Representation Matters?
Diverse teams build better solutions. Research consistently demonstrates that engineering teams with greater gender diversity produce more creative, inclusive, and effective outcomes. When women are present at the design table, products and systems are built with a broader perspective in mind making them safer, more accessible, and more equitable for everyone.
Yet despite significant progress, women remain underrepresented in engineering fields globally. Closing this gap is not merely a matter of fairness; it is a strategic imperative. Every talented woman who is discouraged from pursuing engineering represents a loss not just for her, but for society as a whole.
⚡⚡To Every Woman in Engineering⚡⚡
To every woman who has ever solved a problem others said couldn't be solved, designed a system others said was too complex, or persisted in a room where she was the only one who looked like her this day is for you.
Your work matters. Your presence matters. Your voice matters.
The structures we build, the systems we design, and the future we engineer will be stronger because you are part of it.
Happy International Women in Engineering Day.

The case became known as the “#Ekbatan Town case” following the death of a Basij member named Arman Aliverdi during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests in Ekbatan Town, Tehran, in November 2022. The case initially involved 14 defendants, but indictments were eventually issued for eight individuals.
Hossein Nemati was arrested on December 15, 2022; Amir Mohammad Khosheghbal and Seyed Mohammadmehdi Hosseini on December 6 and 5 respectively; Mehdi Imani on November 15; Alireza Kafaei and Alireza Barmarzpournak on November 4; and Milad Armon on November 2, 2022. Navid Najjaran was later arrested by security forces in Ahvaz and transferred to Tehran.
The judicial process in this case has been marked by serious violations of fair trial standards from the outset. The new death sentences were issued despite the fact that earlier death verdicts handed down by the criminal court on charges of participation in murder had already been overturned by the Supreme Court and reduced to prison sentences and blood money payments after retrial.
The defendants were sentenced to death without access to lawyers or adequate opportunities to present their defense, despite substantial ambiguities and flaws in the case file. Amid ongoing tensions in Iran, they are now at serious risk of execution.
.@freedomhouse is deeply concerned about the reported denial of urgent medical care to @NobelPrize laureate #NargesMohammadi.
Iranian authorities must immediately ensure access to the medical care she needs and uphold their obligations toward those in detention. Narges Mohammadi and all political prisoners in Iran should be released. #FreeThemAll

@Taheri_Movement@UN The UN Charter encourages negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and other peaceful methods to settle disputes.
#DiplomacyDay
Please help us
The @UN came into being in 1945, following the devastation of the Second World War, with one central mission: the maintenance of international peace and security. The Charter of the United Nations states that one of the United Nations' purposes and principles is the commitment to settle disputes through peaceful means and the determination to succeeding generations from the scourge of war.
Conflict prevention remains, however, a relatively under-publicized aspect of the UN's work. Meanwhile, the most efficient and desirable employment of diplomacy is to ease tensions before they result in conflict, or, if conflict breaks out, to act swiftly to contain it and resolve its underlying causes. Preventive diplomacy is very important in supporting United Nations efforts to assist in the peaceful settlement of disputes.
Commitment to multilateralism and international peace and security was also reaffirmed by most world leaders in the General Debate in September 2018. This commitment was also reinforced in the discussion during the High-level Dialogue on Renewing the Commitment to Multilateralism on 31 October 2018.
On 12 December 2018, the General Assembly adopted the resolution, "International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace" (A/RES/73/127) by a recorded vote of 144 in favour to 2 against. By that text, the General Assembly invites all Member States, observers and organizations of the United Nations to observe the International Day in an appropriate manner and to disseminate the advantages of multilateralism and diplomacy for peace, including through educational and public awareness-raising activities.
The UN Charter requires that countries with disputes that could "endanger the maintenance of international peace and security" shall first of all try to "seek solutions through peaceful methods such as "negotiation, enquiry, mediation, conciliation, arbitration, judicial settlement, resort to regional agencies or arrangements, or other peaceful means of their own choice." It envisages roles for the Secretary-General, the Security Council and the General Assembly, among others, in the peaceful settlement of disputes; and UN resolutions and practice have further contributed to the development of the peacemaking functions of the Organization.
In today's gradually interconnected world, multilateralism is essential for tackling complex global issues such as peace, security, climate change, sustainable development, and human rights. Multilateralism's strength lies in its ability to foster crucial dialogue, build trust among nations, and facilitate collaborative solutions to shared global problems. As the world accelerates efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, a strong multilateral system is vital for navigating the complexities of international relations and securing a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. We also mark other UN observances.

Ending war between USA-Israel and Iran must focus on #HumanRights of Iranians
Military strikes by the United States and Israel have dramatically worsened the human rights situation in Iran, with a growing death toll and exacerbating existing economic and environmental pressures for people in the country, @UN_SPExperts warned today.
“The people of #Iran are under attack from outside and from within,” the experts said.
According to Iranian authorities, close to 2,000 civilians have been killed in Iran in airstrikes by Israel and the United States that also hit schools, hospitals, cultural and religious buildings, civilian housing and infrastructure. More than 3 million people are temporarily internally displaced, many fleeing cities that lack functional air-raid sirens or bomb shelters, with particularly severe impacts on groups in vulnerable situations, including at least five million Afghans living in the country.
“The people of Iran are enduring a long-standing pattern of human rights violations, including an extraordinary rate of executions, the systematic dismantling of civic space, and discrimination against women and girls,” the experts said.
They condemned the execution of three men in Qom this month, in connection with their participation in nationwide protests that began in December 2025.
“We have crossed a critical threshold,” the experts warned. “These are the first persons to be hanged in connection with the nationwide protests, following judicial proceedings that were reportedly marred by serious due process concerns. We are afraid they will not be the last,” they said. The most recent executions follow a pattern of using executions to suppress freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, as observed during the ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ movement.
The experts also expressed grave concern at this month’s executions including an individual on charges of espionage in connection with Israel, as well as the execution of two men for baghi (armed rebellion against the foundations of the Islamic Republic of Iran).
“The US-Israeli military strikes not only violate the @UN Charter but have dramatically worsened these conditions and intensified internal repression.”
Some retaliatory strikes by Iran have gone beyond the right of self-defence in the UN Charter, at great cost to countries in the region, they warned.
Iran’s Internet has been severed for 31 consecutive days, cutting people off from information and causing severe economic harm. The experts reiterated concerns about prison conditions and persons forcibly disappeared or who remain missing.
They called for consultations with the full spectrum of society on any peace deal. “Millions took to the streets across Iran demanding fundamental change. Their voices cannot be traded away in negotiations conducted without them.”
Any diplomatic process to resolve the present crisis must address the immediate release of those arbitrarily detained for exercising their fundamental rights, protection of civic space, restoration of Internet access, independent accountability for all violations by all parties, and the protection of civilians across the region, the experts said.
“An end to the war is urgent and necessary but it will not on its own resolve Iran’s human rights crisis,” the experts warned. “The deteriorating human rights situation in Iran did not begin with the strikes, and it will not end when they stop.”
They urged States that are genuinely committed to achieving peace to facilitate negotiations grounded in human rights and the will of the Iranian people.
