A quick word of caution about using global climate model (e.g., WorldClim) data from regions where weather stations are scarce. Look at these two photos and decide which location you think has the wetter climate. (1/4)

I can only assume that this visually obvious mistake is due to (1) the complexity of local climates in Idaho in relation to mountains, longitude, and steep river valleys, and (2) the lack of weather stations contributing data to these remote areas. (3/4)

You may be surprised to learn that GCMs think that the first location (Salmon River, near intersection with South Fork) receives more annual precipitation than the second location (Kelly Creek in the North Fork Clearwater drainage). (2/4)
