Ensuring National Security and strengthening our Borders is a top priority for our Government. In our commitment to securing the India-Bangladesh Border, we have expedited the land transfer process to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of essential fencing.
As of today, a total of 1,024.75 acres of land spanning across 172.6 kms has been formally handed over for this purpose.
Below is the district-wise breakdown of the land transferred:-

Murshidabad: 45.4 kms - 337 acres

North 24 Parganas: 42.07 kms - 241.03 acres

Cooch Behar: 39.39 kms - 135.33 acres

Malda: 20.15 kms - 176.78 acres

Nadia: 14.79 kms - 95.11 acres

Dakshin Dinajpur: 7.75 kms - 26.41 acres

Darjeeling: 1.45 kms - 4.31 acres

Uttar Dinajpur: 1.28 kms - 6.61 acres

Jalpaiguri: 0.31 kms - 2.17 acres

TOTAL: 172.6 kms - 1,024.75 acres

In a significant step towards improving public health, sanitation, and urban cleanliness, the Urban Development & Municipal Affairs (UD&MA) Department, Government of West Bengal, has issued a public notice prohibiting open defecation, public urination, littering, illegal dumping of waste, use of banned plastic carry bags, and spitting in public places.

The regulations will come into effect from 1 July 2026 in select municipalities of North Bengal and from 1 September 2026 across all remaining Urban Local Bodies in the State.

To ensure effective implementation, spot fines and necessary action will be taken against violators. The initiative aims to promote cleaner streets, healthier communities, and greater civic responsibility among citizens.

A clean Bengal cannot be built by government action alone—it requires active participation from every citizen. Let us join hands to keep our cities, towns, markets, institutions, and public spaces clean, hygienic, and plastic-free.
