Dr Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, delivered a virtual address at “Chemistry is HERs: Women in Science” workshop, jointly organised by @BeSTCluster and the Royal Society of Chemistry (@RoySocChem), and held at the @iiscbangalore, Bengaluru, on 12 September 2026. She was joined by Ms Hilary White, Head of Membership Development and Mr @Rajdipchem PhD MRSC, Membership Executive (India), from Royal Society of Chemistry.
Speaking of the missions and programs by the Government of India, such as National Critical Mineral Mission; National Green Hydrogen Mission; Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage initiative; and National Coal Gasification Mission, she highlighted how the underlying role of chemistry is important in India’s national priorities and global challenges. Noting women account for 48.7% of total higher-education enrolment and 42.6% of STEM participation, Dr Maini emphasised the need to build on this momentum by encouraging participation of women in chemical sciences, advanced materials, clean energy and sustainable technologies.
Dr Maini further emphasised the role of the Royal Society of Chemistry as a partner in this initiative which will further strengthen the connection between our scientific communities. She also mentioned how the Royal Society of Chemistry’s global connections across the chemical sciences community can help expand these efforts through international mentorship, knowledge exchange, collaborative research and industry engagement.
