Carl Friedrich Gauss, often called the “Prince of Mathematicians,” famously described mathematics as the “queen of the sciences” and number theory as the “queen of mathematics.”
I think prime numbers are the oxygen of number theory. They are the fundamental building blocks of the positive integers, and their distribution connects elementary arithmetic with some of the deepest questions in modern mathematics. The more we study primes, the more we see that their apparent simplicity hides remarkable mathematical structure.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
