Under the grand vision of "Digital India", I can pay someone's electricity bill from my phone, I can book a flight for my friend, and I can transfer money via UPI in literally two seconds... but I CANNOT buy an unreserved train ticket for my 80-year-old Grandma on my phone and WhatsApp it to her?

Indian Railways has decided that screenshots and WhatsApp copies of digital unreserved tickets are invalid. Why? Because people misuse it by sharing the same ticket. Their solution? Instead of fixing the backend system, they just punish the genuine passengers.

Let’s systematically dismantle the absolute joke of excuses given for this lazy rule:

1️⃣ **"General tickets don't have names, so multiple people can board with one screenshot."**

THEN FIX IT! We are in 2026. How hard is it to ask for Name + Age and mandate an Aadhaar check? You do it for reserved tickets! Just link the digital ticket to a passenger's ID.

2️⃣ **"TTEs can't check IDs inside a packed general coach."**

Let’s be real. No TTE is wading through a crushing crowd of 200 people in a 90-seater coach to check tickets anyway. Most verifications happen at platform exit gates or randomly. If a checker can look at a live app screen on a phone, they can look at a screenshot + a physical ID card.

3️⃣ **"Our database can't handle millions of names for unreserved tickets."**

We process hundreds of millions of UPI transactions daily. Storing basic text data like "Name/Age/Route" is literally kilobytes. Use a different server. Don't use 19th-century

 technical excuses in a 5G bandwidth era!

4️⃣ **"Historically, general tickets never had names."**

Historically, we didn't have apps either! You upgraded the front-end to be digital, but kept the back-end logic in the stone age.

Instead of upgrading the CRIS system to stop duplication (like using a simple QR code linked to an ID), the IT department took the laziest way out: locking the ticket to the device.

The result? You are forcing an eighty-year-old grandma to either buy a smartphone, keep it charged, have active data, and navigate the ticketing app in her name... OR go stand in a 2-hour physical line at the station counter.

Is this the digital inclusion we boast about? True technology empowers delegation and accessibility. This lazy workaround is just harassment disguised as a "rule."
