.@elonmusk says that no one can name a person who died from his aid cuts. In fact, I've met the kids who are dying, and I've talked to the families who lost children. In my columns, I've cited many, many names of people who have died because of Musk's aid cuts. A few examples:
*Yamah Freeman was a 23-year-old woman who died in childbirth because Musk cut funding for the diesel for ambulances in her part of Liberia. She couldn't get to a hospital and died as people were carrying her there. I talked to her parents and sister in their village.
*Gbessey Kiadu, age 1, died of malaria because of his cuts to malaria medication in Liberia. I talked to his mom in her village.
*Ibrahim Koroma, an infant, died of AIDS in Sierra Leone after he interrupted HIV supplies. I talked to health workers who cared for him.
*Achol Deng was an 8-year-old girl with HIV in South Sudan who died when Musk cut funding for the health care worker who provided her medicines. I talked to the healthcare workers.
I could go on and on. In almost every village you go to in South Sudan, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone or other countries I reported in, you find people dying because of aid cuts. I challenge Musk: Come with me on a reporting trip, and we'll talk to these moms and dads, and you'll see the dying children themselves. I think if you see the kids whose lives are at stake, maybe you'll change your mind.

This is false or misleading on every major point.

Measles was never just a trivial “old‑fashioned” rash.

Sanitation did not make it a “near‑zero” problem before vaccines.

Measles vaccines do not have a higher death risk than measles.

Immunity from the measles vaccine is lifelong for most.

Vaccinated people are not the primary source of outbreaks.

In the pre-vaccine era nearly 100% of U.S. children contracted measles by age 15.

In 2025, out of 73 million U.S. children under 18, there were 1,596 measles cases in that age group or about 0.0022%.

Vaccination drove this greater than 99.99% drop while maintaining elimination status since 2000 (at least for now.)

Measles infection risks include:

Hospitalization: 1 in 5

Encephalitis (brain swelling): 1 in 1,000 children (25% who survive suffer permanent neurological harm)

SSPE: 1 in 1,367 infections for children 1-5 years of age, 1 in 609 for infants. Always fatal years after infection

Pneumonia: 1 in 20 children (most common cause of measles death in children)

Deafness: Prior to vaccines the measles virus accounted for 5-10% of total deafness cases in the USA

Death: 1 in 1,000 children

Immune amnesia: Wipes out immune memory for years making the child more vulnerable to other infections

And the vaccine? No established causal risk for encephalitis, SSPE, death, pneumonia, deafness or immune amnesia.

Febrile seizures occur at a rate of about 1 in 3,000–4,000 after MMR & are typically brief & benign.

Claiming the "measles vaccines carry many times more times the risk of death than measles" is flat-earth-level delusional.

Pre-vaccination the USA still saw tens of thousands of hospitalizations & hundreds of deaths annually from this "old fashion mild disease of childhood."

@confusionm8trix Look to real immunologists, who have actually studied this question. They will tell you that some studies have been misinterpreted or misrepresented to stoke fear, but S-CoV2 virus is like its relatives. The major pandemic threat was because it was new.
