@SiljaJATalvi @samswey You're absolutely right. Fashion can be a form of freedom for the marginized or oppressed. This freedom often offends societal norms or expectations. Some accounts of the Zoot Suit Riots assert that white Angelenos were upset that the suits flouted fabric rationing restrictions.

@SiljaJATalvi @samswey As someone who was in the Chicano punk subculture, have you read the long-running Love and Rockets comic book series by brothers Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez? The L.A. punk scene of the 80s and 90s is a prominent part of some of the main characters’ storylines.
