Ever seen delivery agents resting on footpaths, parks or under the sun? That’s changing now.
Chennai has flipped the script by opening AC lounges for gig workers. With space for 25 people, charging ports, drinking water, clean washrooms and 24/7 air conditioning, it’s the comfort they longed by delivery agents during scorching summers and heavy rains.
To ensure safety, a watchman guards the pod and manually logs gig workers before entry. Only those in uniform are allowed, keeping the facility exclusively for them. CCTV cameras are connected to the local police station and GCC control room for added security.
Built at a cost of ₹25 lakh, the pilot in Anna Nagar is the first of thirty planned across the city.
