I don’t have a problem with anyone’s dressing. People can dress as they like. But I do have a problem with inappropriate dressing at religious gatherings, festivals that require modesty. Wear what you want but respect elders and those others around you in places that require you to dress appropriately. I don’t think this should be a feminist issue or a big deal. Being a rebel is good at certain things not everything. Specially when it comes to Hindu festivities you fake feminists and the supporters suddenly become rebels. Kriti Sanon says women have the freedom to wear whatever they want. Fine. Nobody is arguing about her private wardrobe.

But GIVA had to pull down its Raksha Bandhan ad after massive backlash over exactly the outfit she is now defending. That is not a coincidence. That is public sentiment speaking louder than her justification.

Here is the question Kriti conveniently skips, does context not matter at all? An occasion, a festival, a brand identity, none of it counts for anything?

By her logic, would she be fine walking into a temple in beachwear? Would GIVA be fine launching a Rakhi campaign that looks like a swimsuit shoot? Would she visit a funeral dressed for a pool party?

And then comes the bigger contradiction. In the same ad she ties a Rakhi to a dog and calls it family. Cute sentiment, except family does not work as a convenient prop for a brand shoot. That is the real problem here. Emotional language borrowed selectively to sell a product, dressed up as empowerment when questioned, and dressed up as family bonding when convenient. Animals are not humans, and treating them as equivalent only for a 30 second ad is not affection, it is marketing dressed as sentiment.

GIVA had the sense to apologise and pull the ad. Kriti is still busy lecturing the public about their own culture instead of admitting the campaign got the tone wrong.
