Happy birthday to the BEST actor and BIGGEST superstar of this generation - #RanbirKapoor. Here's my LONG, HEARTFELT and HONEST note on him. Do read -

His rise as a BIG STAR between 2008-2013 impressed me tremendously not just because of success but how he achieved it. It was incredible to see a young actor & star earning his spurs by NOT doing conventional stuff.

If #AzabPremKiGazabKahani was a SUPERHIT, so was #Rajneeti. Here's an actor who could effortlessly essay diametrically opposite characters in #WakeUpSid and #Rockstar. Both were not the usual commercial movies but clicked at the ticket windows.

#Barfi and #YehJawaniHaiDeewani in 2013 put him almost alongside Khans. He didn't look rehearsed like #AamirKhan, nor did he "build" his AURA by infusing his persona in every role. Here was an actor who was stunningly natural and pursued craft with a rare passion.

There wasn't a single contemporary of his who was even close to him till 2013.

And then the stagnation set in. While thematically #Tamasha, #JaggaJasoos and #AeDilHaiMushkil were chalk & cheese but his characters started looking repetitive. There's only so much variety that even a great actor like him could lend to "coming-of-age" roles.

#BombayVelvet and #Besharam sank without a trace. And his box-office standing was SHAKY especially with the rise of #RanveerSingh and #VarunDhawan between 2014-2018.

#Sanju broke the dry spell at ticket windows and his acting as usual was stellar. But he was still stuck with "coming-of-age" roles.

My own patience with Ranbir was almost exhausted by 2022. I couldn't believe that an actor who has shown unbelievable potential as an ACTOR as well as STAR was not measuring to any of the both metrics. #Shamshera and #Brahmastra were essentially distillation of his earlier avatars in different packaging.

Then #ANIMAL happened in 2023. I was absolutely uncertain whether Ranbir has the personality of ammunition to pull off such a role which needed not only uninhibited machismo & swagger but also a certain wild streak which he hadn't portrayed before.

And man! He reeled off what is arguably the GREATEST performance by a MALE lead in Indian cinema in this decade. He didn't miss a beat in any scene while depicting an emotionally complex character whose arc was gargantuan.

While #SandeepVangaReddy deserves props for penning imaginative screenplay and a complex character, #RanbirKapoor𓃵 brought his vision to fruition in a powerful & nearly unblemished manner. One can't think of any other actor who could have brought this role to life with such amazing conviction and nuances... and sans any theatrics.

I also have a feeling that Ranbir bared a part of his persona in 'ANIMAL' which he had consciously kept guarded from the public eye till then.

So, here I am. Once again swearing by this wonderfully gifted actor. If there's one actor whose future trajectory I'm MOST excited to see, it's him.
