Sergeant Dominic Vaca was killed in the line of duty on May 31, 2021, when he was shot following a vehicle pursuit of a motorcycle in Yucca Valley. Sergeant Vaca was flown to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dominic served his country in the United States Army before pursuing a career with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and two daughters, Angie, and Makayla.

Our deputies were out yesterday conducting e-motorcycle enforcement throughout the city. With a zero-tolerance approach toward violations, several e-motorcycles were impounded and numerous citations were issued during the operation.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, #TeamRCPD will
participate in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Southern California. At approximately 12 PM, we’ll receive the Torch at Foothill Blvd & Etiwanda Ave and continue to Foothill Blvd & Grove Ave in Upland.
This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is closely monitoring the active shooter incident at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the community of Clairemont. We remain in communication with our federal, state, and local partners as the investigation continues.
We are grateful for the immediate response by law enforcement personnel who acted quickly to stop the threat and protect the public.
At this time, there are no known credible threats to San Bernardino County. As a precaution, the Department has increased patrols around places of worship, cultural centers, and other key locations throughout the county.
