@SteveEagle6840@Teachers__Unite 30% of new grads from the past 5 years have failed to renew their license and quit the profession.
That's a statistic directly from OCT.
We are losing future teachers before they even make the 5 year mark.
@Anniekidder Just the shortages?
If you can see the health and safety reports filed, that will give you a far clearer picture of how bad things are in schools.
Teachers are defenseless, and admin and boards are keeping things quiet.
@ChandraPasma Want to get a better understanding of how bad it is? Ask for the health and safety reports from your board, specifically in special education classrooms.
Boards refuse to take any action and prefer to sweep everything under the rug.
@Teachers__Unite In PDSB this is nothing new.
Nobody would believe the level of violence that exists within these schools, from physical violence to sexual assault.
Peel is extremely good at keeping this quiet.
@kjbrosha @steve_boots Be aware that some places/boards in Canada also cannot/will not give zeros.
What you now have are students in high school reading and writing at a grade 5 level.
Grade 10 students pulling out diary of a wimpy kid.
@Hedzer15@atRachelGilmore@TheSarcasticist Which is my point, obviously as a concerned parent you would want to know every time they don't finish their lunch.
Every time they are upset, doesn't matter the reason, upset is upset and your rights as a parent are important.
Pronouns or lunch, no call is trivial.
@Hedzer15@atRachelGilmore@TheSarcasticist I've called parents on issues with lunch, dress code violations, things said in school, bullying.....really the list goes on.
I have had more of those phone calls go south because I am "wasting their time".
But pronouns, Jesus I better stay in my lane.
@ONT_Dad I remember a time when parents would get calls home when their kids came in "inappropriate" clothing. Parents would get upset telling Ts to mind their business.
Funny how all of a sudden parents are concerned about pronouns.....
@TeachRandom@calphonso@ONTSpecialNeeds Boards don't want the fight or bad publicity, so it is mainstream students/other DD students who suffer.
The high behaviours? Trashing the room, physical violence towards other students/teachers, and this is all with little warning.
@TeachRandom@calphonso@ONTSpecialNeeds This is a problem that is going to end in a few years as some boards are going to destream Spec Ed DD classrooms.
Highest functioning classes will be merged with mainstream.
The problem? Some students in those rooms have high behavioirs and were placed there from parent advocacy.
@FurMama14@MaryFraserH@PeelSchools@OSSTFD19@ETFOPeel Yes, we have a choice, but do we really?
Cost of everything is going ⬆️.
Some of us work two or three other jobs to make ends meet.
So do we really have a choice?
@bibicosplays If you really want to be depressed, check out school boards.
They are ALL about equity but are dead silent on Special Ed.
Every school board knows where the spec Ed and DD classes are when they want a photo op, but avoid those classes any other time.
@Teachers__Unite I am completely underwhelmed by OSSTF.
Bargaining is insane and I assume it is going poorly, especially after CUPE.
Not to mention that within Spec Ed classrooms, both Ts and EAs are getting destroyed.
PDSB is on fire, and OSSTF is so out of their depth with Spec Ed it's scary.
@JBradshaw01 Complex learning needs and behaviour.
#onted is not ready for how complicated teaching is going to become when voc students are destreamed in September and DD students are destreamed two years from now.
@Teachers__Unite The amount of injuries and stress leaves in DD rooms is staggering.
The fact that the media hasn't picked up on the violence that occurs in some of these rooms is amazing
