Yesterday felt like a Christian Twitter rite of passage for me.
I was called a false prophet, false teacher, blasphemer, a wolf and a heretic headed to hell, all because I don’t believe in biblical inerrancy.
And we wonder why young people are leaving the Church in droves…
Friends, I’ve joined the exodus over to the other place.
I think we can officially call that The Good Place.
So far, it’s a much less toxic space. I’d be honored to have you follow me there, and I’d love to follow you back.
Let’s build a more beautiful community together!
As a former CIA case officer, I saw the men and women of the U.S. intelligence community put their lives on the line every day for this country — and I am appalled at the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard to lead DNI. (1/3)
@Peter_Bukowski Because Mike is 58 years old. Watch his last real fight from 20 years ago. He was washed up then, and he hasn’t turned into a better boxer 20 years later.
It’s yet another money grab against a compromised opponent for Jake. He’s a joke, just like this “boxing match” is.
When we learn to serve others, every gesture of attention and care, every expression of tenderness, and every act of mercy become a reflection of God’s love.
The church moves toward corruption and irrelevance when it cozies up to political power, historically.
Always.
The church thrives when it becomes a subversive movement of resistance against oppressive, power-hungry politicians.
Always.
Let’s be the subversive resistance.
American Christians have always had to choose the kind of Christians we’re going to be.
From slaveholders and segregationist’s Christianity to homophobic and misogynistic Christianity, Christianity has always been weaponized.
Give me Christ’s way of liberation every time.
Let us continue to pray for martyred Ukraine, where even hospitals and other civilian buildings are being targeted. May we pray for Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, and Sudan. Let us pray for peace throughout the world.
Following Jesus will look like heresy to those following the Empire faith that merely uses Jesus as a mascot while ignoring His loving words & example.
Jesus was called a heretic.
When they call you a heretic, you are in good company, friend.
I really want to have all the post-election conversations and ask questions about how half of our nation voted for someone who admires fascists.
I do and I will.
But, I won’t rush past the lament, grief, anger and fear of marginalized communities.
We need to listen first.
To the all the pastors, naysayers, slanderers, progressive Christians working to intimidate and distract by labeling us “too political” or “Christian Nationalists”…
I pray God opens your eyes revealing how significant the prayers & activism of the saints were in this victory!
I so badly want to move on, focus on hope and ignore reality in America today.
However, I realize that moving on and ignoring reality is a straight white male privilege.
I’m sitting in lament today, and turning that lament into action tomorrow.
“Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.”
- St. Teresa of Avila
