أبٌ يأخذ ولديه إلى الجامعة كي لا يضيعا امتحاناتهما. فتاة تدرس البيولوجيا وتحلم بمستقبلها. شاب يدرس الهندسة. عائلة تؤمن أن العلم ما زال الطريق الوحيد للخلاص في هذا البلد. خرجوا من القليعة إلى بيروت رغم الخوف، رغم الحرب، رغم القلق، لأننا في لبنان تربّينا على أن خسارة سنة دراسية قد تغيّر مصيراً كاملاً. عادوا إلى البيت … لكنهم لم يصلوا.
الدكتور جيمس كرم، وابنته ثيودوسيا، وابنه طوني، هم صورة عن آلاف العائلات اللبنانية التي تعيش كل يوم بين نارين: الخوف على حياتها والخوف على مستقبل أولادها. وما يزيد الوجع أن الطلاب كانوا قد حذّروا. الأساتذة ناقشوا. الناس خافت. لكن أحداً لم يسمع بما يكفي.
في أي بلد طبيعي، لا يُجبر الطلاب على الاختيار بين الامتحان والموت. في أي بلد طبيعي، لا يصبح الوصول إلى الجامعة رحلة قد تنتهي بجنازة. وفي السيارة التي احترقت، يقول من شاهدوا المشهد إن ما بقي كان الإنجيل وصورة السيدة العذراء. وكأن ّهذا البلد، رغم كل الرماد، ما زال يتمسّك بالإيمان … أو كأنّ السماء تحاول أن تذكّرنا بأن الإنسانية لم تمت بالكامل بعد.
رحم الله جيمس وثيودوسيا وطوني كرم. ورحم هذا الوطن الذي يتآكل فيه الإنسان يوماً بعد يوم.

Heartbreaking.

13-month-old baby boy Preston Davey was placed for adoption with a same-sex couple in Grimsargh. Within months, he was allegedly raped and killed.

Jamie Varley (36) faces murder, multiple sexual assaults on the child, cruelty, and extreme porn charges. His partner John McGowan-Fazakerley (31) also charged. Both plead not guilty. 

The trial starts this month in Preston Crown Court.

How did social services think this was a safe home for a vulnerable baby?

Children's needs must always come before adult desires. 

Every child deserves a mother and father.

Milad Hassan Zadeh, a 17-year-old boy, left a farewell note for his family before heading out to protest.

I’m sharing his words because that was his own request, to make sure his voice would be heard. Let’s make sure his wish is honored.

Erfan Soltani is only 26.

He is one of many Iranian protesters now facing execution. His family has spoken out, risking their own lives, in a desperate attempt to save him.

A source close to the family says: “The family is under extreme pressure. Even a close relative who is a lawyer tried to take on the case but was blocked and threatened by security agents. They told him, ‘There is no file to review. We announced that anyone arrested in the protests would be executed. Erfan’s sentence is Moharebeh (Waging war against God); it is final and will be carried out.’”

Do not let the regime silently murder another innocent Iranian. Be his voice.
