Once again, a civilian merchant vessel has been attacked near the edge of Romania’s territorial waters. The ship has sunk, and there are reports of deaths and injuries. The perpetrator is, in all likelihood, Russia once again.
And once again, NATO is taking no action.
In the Black Sea, 13 nautical miles (24 km) off the coast of Constanța, a merchant vessel sailing under the flag of the Comoros was attacked by a drone. There were 13 people on board: 10 Ukrainian citizens and 3 Azerbaijani citizens.
Nine crew members were rescued, one crew member died, and three others remain missing.
Deeply alarmed by yet another Russian escalation in the Black Sea.
A civilian vessel carrying Ukrainian and Azerbaijani crew has been struck off the coast of Romania.
These reckless attacks target innocent lives and openly defy international law.
My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the sailor that was killed.
And with the families of the three crew members still missing.
My gratitude goes to the rescue teams working tirelessly to find them.

Buying diesel and lifting sanctions from Russia - masterful gambit, president Trump!
Restrictions on Starlink in Ukraine remain in place, despite Trump’s remarks.
“We see the same restrictions; so, for now, nothing has changed,” wrote Dmytro Lytvyn, an advisor to the Ukrainian president.
According to sources cited by the Associated Press, the restrictions on the operation of satellite communications in Ukraine remain in effect.
Either Elon Musk is now doing whatever he wants in the U.S., or Trump lied—or both.
However, let's recognize @elonmusk's bravery. Meddling in Europen politics and attacking the EU itself when you want regulatory privileges and frequency permissions is a bold business strategy.
Trump: The New York Times got caught! They used a Company, Wedgewood Polls, that ADMITTED that the Poll Numbers they published were made up and FAKE…Everything about The Failing New York Times is “ARTIFICIAL.”
“The Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner’s phone and monitored him as he accessed a Dubai-based bank account.
What was odd, the source said, was that the money in the account—hundreds of millions of dollars—had come from a bank in Azerbaijan. Most importantly, Kushner appeared to have transferred significant amounts of money from the Dubai account to other individuals, including a warlord, a mercenary and a one-time hit man”
@naomimorris1980 My company asked if I’d move to the US since we’ve expanded there and my English is decent for a German (cheers to the British relatives). Then I remembered my Tweet history and thought… actually, best not. 😂
@thatjameskirk Thanks for making that clear. A European mindset just can't get why someone would throw their own under the bus and what anyone gains from that.
@thatjameskirk It's about a Trump supporter hookin' up with male escorts.
What do Dems even have to do with any of this? So having a dead brother who hired male escorts actually gets you sympathy votes in the US?

⚡️ Ukraine and Finland signed seven agreements worth 300 million euros, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced.
The agreements include expanding satellite capabilities with Nokia and ICEYE, as well as supporting energy and logistics.
Zelenskyy has put three concrete decisions in front of Trump. Each of them stops short of requiring Ukraine to forgive Russia. None requires Ukraine to surrender its energy infrastructure or accept blame for a war Russia started.
THE MISSILES
Zelenskyy says he told Trump that if Washington cannot get Putin to end the war or reach an energy agreement, it should provide air-defense missiles to protect Ukraine’s energy sector. He wanted no gift. European countries would pay for them.
Help stop Russian attacks on the systems Ukrainians need to keep the lights and heat on is a narrow, practical request. Yet Trump speaks about Zelenskyy as though the Ukrainian president is the unreasonable party. Zelenskyy’s response is pointed. The severity Trump directs at him belongs in his conversations with Putin.
THE DIESEL BLAME
Zelenskyy says Trump tells his supporters Ukraine causes higher diesel prices in America. He calls that an attempt to shift attention from the disruption at the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Middle East crisis.
The distinction matters. Trump can argue about the consequences of his Iran policy. What he cannot reasonably do is make the president of a country under Russian attack answer for American fuel prices while treating Russia's invasion as an inconvenience to be worked around. Zelenskyy says blaming him for Russia’s crimes distorts the entire context of the war.
THE SANCTIONS
Congress voted for tough sanctions, Zelenskyy notes, and Trump has the authority to put them into effect. Zelenskyy says he has no idea why Trump has held back. He wants action rather than another speech about peace. This question concerns a power the US president already has.
Trump keeps calling for compromise. Zelenskyy says a ceasefire followed by negotiations would itself be an enormous compromise for Ukrainians living with what Russia has done. They need time and justice. Those responsible for their suffering must face consequences. Going back to buying and selling Russian fuel as though the crimes can simply be forgiven is not diplomacy. Letting Putin keep the benefits of his attack is a choice.
NATO will allow Ukraine to purchase weapons directly through its centralized procurement agency, the NSPA.
The move gives Kyiv faster access to allied defense supplies amid severe missile shortages and mounting US friction.
