This Independence Day, only one Army dog has been honoured for his bravery, and that is Tyson.

In February 2026, Tyson, an Army dog attached to 2 Para Special Forces, was the first to track down terrorists hiding in the rugged terrain of Kishtwar, J&K.

As Tyson moved towards the hideout, the terrorists opened fire. He was shot in the leg.

Tyson took a bullet but never took a step back and kept moving despite his injury.

His courage helped the soldiers locate the terrorists, and 3 terrorists were neutralized in the operation.

On this Independence Day, our four-legged soldier Tyson has been recognised with a Mention-in-Despatches for his courage and service to the nation.

@Jijith_NR @jayasartn I agree with ur assertion, people can rename places as Panchavati later, for the love of it. But why does that logic not apply to Agastya Asrama, which can also get rebranded later?

My question is how to know which is real? Your answer is see Google map, not convincing.

Also why would Guptas rebrand Nashik as Panchavati? There has to be some precedence or pray tell their motivation to do so?

Adapting the Gurukul system to modern times : this requires moving past the historical specifics like living in a forest or restricting certain texts and focusing on its core educational philosophy.

By blending its timeless principles with modern technology, we can create a highly effective, holistic educational framework.

Here is how the Gurukul system can be practically adapted today:

1. Shifting from Mass Testing to the Guru-Shishya Mentor Ratio

The Problem Today: Modern education relies on factory-style classrooms with high student-to-teacher ratios, leading to standardized testing where students memorize to pass exams.

The Gurukul Adaptation: Implementing micro-classrooms or robust mentorship networks. Schools can utilize AI and digital platforms to handle basic grading and information delivery, freeing up human teachers to act as true "Gurus."

Teachers focus on deep mentorship, emotional intelligence, character development, and tailoring the speed of learning to each individual student's natural strengths (Svabhava).

2. Integrating Modern "Guilds" (Vocational Apprenticeships)

The Problem Today: Higher education is facing a massive crisis of employability. Students graduate with heavy debt and theoretical knowledge, but lack real-world skills.

The Gurukul Adaptation: Bringing back the Sreni (guild) model by integrating corporate and trade apprenticeships directly into high school and college curriculums.

Instead of waiting until graduation to look for a job, students would spend half their week in a "vocational Gurukul" … working directly under master engineers, software developers, artists, or business managers, learning through active production.

3. Holistic "Dinacharya" (Daily Lifestyle and Well-being)

The Problem Today: Students face unprecedented rates of anxiety, screen addiction, and mental fatigue due to a hyper-competitive, sedentary school lifestyle.

The Gurukul Adaptation: Redesigning the school day around holistic well-being. A modern Gurukul curriculum would start the day with physical conditioning, yoga, breathwork (Pranayama), and secular mindfulness practices before diving into academic subjects.

It would emphasize Dinacharya (a disciplined daily routine) that balances intense mental focus with manual outdoor labor, gardening, and community service.

4. Interdisciplinary Learning and Applied Sciences

The Problem Today: Knowledge is heavily siloed. A student studies math in one room, history in another, and art in a third, rarely seeing how they connect.

The Gurukul Adaptation: Teaching through project-based, interdisciplinary modules, much like the ancient Shilpa Shastras blended advanced mathematics, geometry, material science, and fine aesthetics into a single project.

Students would learn physics, economics, and environmental science simultaneously by working together to build a functional drone, design a sustainable community garden, or run a small campus business.

5. Upkeeping the "Guru Dakshina" Principle (Accessible Education)

The Problem Today: High-quality, elite education is often locked behind massive financial barriers, leading to lifelong student debt.

The Gurukul Adaptation: Reimaging funding through Income Share Agreements (ISAs) or corporate-sponsored education. In an ISA model, students pay nothing upfront (remodeling the sacred duty of Vidya Dana).

Once they graduate and successfully secure a high-paying job, they pay back a small, fixed percentage of their income for a limited time to fund the education of the next generation…a modern financial equivalent of Guru Dakshina.
