Our Redbridge Independent councillors Rashida Choudhery, Dr Imran Ahmed and Noorjahan Begum attended Positive Ageing Week at Ilford Exchange Health Centre.
It was great to meet the teams providing vital support across Redbridge, from health checks, falls prevention and safeguarding to carer support and urgent community response.
Positive ageing is about adding life to your years, not just years to your life.
A big thank you to Age UK and everyone involved in bringing these services together and helping residents live healthier, more independent and connected lives.
💚 It was a privilege to attend the AMYC Macmillan Coffee Morning and spend time speaking with local residents affected by cancer, as well as their families and carers.
A heartfelt thank you to AMYC, its manager, trustees and everyone who helped bring the community together in support of such an important cause.
Macmillan reminds us that no one should have to face cancer alone. 💚

Two women attending Thursday’s Redbridge Council meeting were refused entry to the public gallery unless they removed their keffiyehs.
One of the women is Arab, for whom the keffiyeh also has cultural significance.
This requires a clear explanation from @RedbridgeLive.
What specific Council rule prohibited them from entering while wearing a keffiyeh, who authorised the decision, and on what grounds?
If no such rule exists, the Council needs to explain why two members of the public were denied access on the basis of what they were wearing.
As you weren’t in attendance and clearly haven’t seen the footage of the meeting, let me correct your “recollection” of what happened.
We didn’t get to speak on Broadmead Bridge, much less vote on it.
Similarly, we weren’t in the chamber for the water vote, so the claim that we voted against it is simply false.
As for questions about local services, THREE of our councillors asked detailed questions about local services, and another spoke about Wanstead Leisure Centre delays.
You’re entitled to criticise us. But at least get the basic facts right.
Leave Alex alone @MarwanElfallah He’s not used to having meaningful opposition in the chamber or being outnumbered in his ward.
And isn’t it funny that he’s only ever “disappointed” by RI and not by disgraceful comments from his colleagues.

DIVEST PUBLIC FUNDS FROM ISRAEL: WHAT HAPPENED AT REDBRIDGE COUNCIL ON 24 SEPTEMBER
Redbridge Independents, the official opposition to the Labour-led Council, called for the Council’s pension fund to divest from investments connected to Israel.
We were supported by the Green Party @RedbridgeGreens. Our position was simple: public money should not be invested in companies or states implicated in serious violations of international law and the genocide in Gaza.
Labour rejected our approach. Instead, they replaced it with a watered-down call for “responsible investment”, without committing to full divestment.
Our amendments were also rejected.
We therefore refused to support a motion that, in our view, fell far short of the action required.
Later in the meeting, RI Leader Cllr Marwan Elfallah was prevented by the Labour Chair from speaking on other matters, including Broadmead Bridge, a major project with significant implications for taxpayers.
In protest at what we regarded as an unacceptable restriction on legitimate democratic scrutiny, Redbridge Independent councillors left the chamber.
Whatever our political differences, opposition councillors must be able to scrutinise major decisions, challenge the administration and speak on matters affecting the residents they represent.
That is what an opposition is there to do.
Redbridge Independents will continue to challenge the administration, scrutinise its decisions and make sure residents have a strong voice in Town Hall.
After years of one-party dominance, accountability matters more than ever.
WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.

@alexcholmes@MarwanElfallah So I wonder if you think allowing 0 minutes on a debate is proportional and if its acceptable to make insinuations towards councillors - would you tolerate Redbridge Independents calling others creepy in the chamber? Juvenile behaviour from juveniles.
Disappointed to see my fellow ward councillor put forward misleading information . Redbridge Independents were denied an opportunity to speak on the Broadmead bridge and the mayor allowed cabinet members to make nasty & disgraceful insuations.
@Guy__Williams Labours @DuddridgeLloyd insulted a fellow councillor and was not given a right to respond by a Labour Mayor. Is that your type of politics @Guy__Williams. The spin on this message by you is sensational. This is why the public have lost confidence in Redbridge Labour.
Spoiled motion , self praise for trying to fix problems they created, softball questions, denial of the Official Opposition the right to speak on a £ 100 million project and disgusting and disgraceful insuations made against elected officials. Just another full council meeting!
Last night, I attended the Valentines Ward meeting alongside my colleague @RashidaChonveb the @MPSRedbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team and local residents. All coming together, sharing concerns and working together to make Valentines Ward a safer place for everyone.
