I was having a period of worries about the health of close family, resulting in bouts of insomnia. On one such night, an image flashed into my mind revealing how I was listening to my negative voices as my higher self was asleep, leaving me emotionally and physically thrashed. Sometimes these feelings seem very easy to translate into images and it actually helped me get over the condition because I could “get outside myself,” have compassion and imagine more positive potentials, moving on to a better night’s sleep. I think cannabis might have helped tooooo. ⠀

Are art objects enchanted? Are spirits connected with art? In Ethiopian healing Prayer scrolls, paintings of webs of eyes are said to entrap negative spirits that are exorcised by a priest and placed into a painting. The idea of a painting or sculpture reflecting shadow forces may help us "off-load" our own worst fears into self-made talismans and artifacts. In this way there is healing provided by expressing and integrating the feelings. ⠀

Many of us are dealing with a lot of feelings, so I hope people keep flowing and creating, using their work to heal themselves and the suffering world.

Ace Frehley, Eddie, Me in awe…

I heard about Ace Frehley‘s passing from Rick Friel who I played with in a band called Shadow. Rick was also the first guy on the bus in 1977 with a KISS lunchbox to tell me about Ace…just changed my life. I got a guitar in 1978 to join Rick‘s band Warrior which turned into Shadow. We covered “C’mon and Love Me”.

All my friends have spent untold hours talking about KISS and buying KISS stuff. Ace was a hero of mine and also I would consider a friend. I studied his solos endlessly over the years…

Just listen to “Alive”, I used his solo from “She” as a template. Ace jammed on “Black Diamond” with Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden…a dream come true for me.

I would not have picked up a guitar without Ace and KISS’s influence.

RIP it out Ace, you changed my life.
