In 1995, Swedish adventurer Göran Kropp began one of the wildest journeys in mountaineering history.
Instead of flying to Nepal, he rode a heavily loaded bicycle nearly 13,000 kilometers from Stockholm to Mount Everest, carrying most of his climbing gear himself.
After reaching Everest Base Camp, Kropp attempted to summit the world’s highest mountain completely solo, without Sherpa support and without bottled oxygen.
During the deadly 1996 Everest disaster, he even helped carry medical supplies and assist stranded climbers before making another summit attempt.
On May 23, 1996, Göran Kropp successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest alone and without supplemental oxygen, becoming one of the few climbers in history to achieve such a feat.
And when it was over, he didn’t board a plane. He got back on his bicycle and started pedaling home toward Sweden.
One man. One bike. One of the greatest endurance adventures ever recorded.
@CryptoWhale Always do your due diligence folks. Fuck FOMO. If you're going to lose money let it be because you fucked yourself up, not a motherfucking NEPO baby in an untasteful golden New York office.
