@SHistorians @ShankingShots @usopengolf That Medal was procured by the @USGA nearly 20 years ago from Horace Rawlins grandson Michael (who had no idea what it was). It was on hand for a second time at the most recent @RawlinsInvite at @Springhaven1896 for its 50th Anniversary Celebration.

On this day in 1895 the first U.S. Open was hosted by the USGA. Horace Rawlins raised the trophy after the 36-hole, one day championship at Newport Country Club.
