In armed conflicts, not everything or everyone is a lawful target.
@CDroegeICRC, ICRC's chief legal officer, explains what’s allowed on the battlefield and how the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution are meant to protect lives.

🇺🇸🇱🇧Tucker: Israel called the Beirut operation “Eternal Darkness”
“Israel named this operation, killing hundreds of civilians in Lebanon, mostly in Beirut, Eternal Darkness.
Because why even pretend anymore?”

🇱🇧🇮🇱 Israel launched more than 100 strikes in just ten minutes across Lebanon.
Over 250 people have already been killed and 1,200 wounded, with the number likely to rise as many civilians are still buried under the rubble.
Heartbreaking!
🇺🇸🇱🇧 American University of Beirut Medical Center Blood Bank is urgently calling for blood donors of all types.
Lebanon is caught in the crossfire of the war, and people are dying every day due to a lack of blood for emergencies.
And the blood banks are running critically low right now.
With everything going on right now, every donation can help save lives.

🇱🇧🇮🇱 DOZENS OF BUILDINGS LEVELED IN LEBANON IN THE WORST BOMBING IN YEARS
Hearing of "massacres" and "war crimes"
Netanyahu is getting his revenge after the war didn't end as planned
Where is the U.S.? Where is Iran? Where is Pakistan?
Either Netanyahu is sabotaging the ceasefire deal, or he's bombing Lebanon one final time before the war ends there too. Either way, today is a bloodbath for the Lebanese people
Staying neutral allows us to do our job. It is not indifference: it is a deliberate choice.
Our mission comes from the Geneva Conventions, universal laws that preserve a degree of humanity, even in war. Today, 163 years since our founding, neutrality remains as crucial as ever.

In armed conflict-affected areas, when healthcare workers aren’t protected, everything stops: no ambulances, no medicine, no care. Just people waiting… and hoping help comes.
The rules of war are clear: they must always be protected and respected.
Killing or injuring healthcare workers, bombing hospitals, targeting ambulances, isn’t just a "war consequence"; it’s a collapse of humanity.
Under international humanitarian law, patients and humanitarian workers are protected along with the hospitals they work in and the ambulances they rely on.
،العاملون والمتطوعون في المجال الإنساني ليسوا هدفا؛
ويجب احترامهم وضمان حمايتهم.
Humanitarian workers and volunteers are not a target;
they must be respected and their safety guaranteed.
