My short film, Supernigga, got rejected every major festival but got 400k views on YouTube organically in a month and had A24 and hella studios begging to make the feature. Moral of the story is there is no one path for all. I choose the internet over festivals.
Record labels never want to spend money on music videos because they cut down on immediate profits, but it's short term thinking. In the long run, an iconic music video provides cultural framework for an artist's longevity. Capturing them in their prime gives future audiences a way to experience the song through the performer at their best. Yes you can hear the songs whenever you want, but watching Michael zombie dance to Thriller or Britney naked with diamonds to Toxic are experiences that make those songs come alive decades after they dominated airplay. The artist has time traveled to future generations (this is why quality matters). There aren't many record companies that are patient for that kind of pay off, because there aren't many record execs who have that long of a shelf life anymore. Everyone has to answer to the next quarter but the artist and their music has to answer to forever.
His dickhead antics aside for one second someone whoβs life revolves around Reddit Uk drill page hasnβt heard K Trap ft DoRoad Youngs Teflon - RRR ? Yeah right man
TLRβs made some valid points over the years about rappers cosplay-ing etc, but saying βIβve never listened to a Youngs Teflon song in my lifeβ is just ignorance π even hinting his 100k views might be fake is crazy
Heβs been putting in 17+ years with real bangers π a UK Goat π
ppl really just wanna feel good and that period felt good, a lot of memories and nostalgia and wavey songs... some low hanging fruit too but some real timeless riddims
the way i lived the barfest era and saw them uni parties evolve into vehices for what became uk afroswing, same people partying became artists and consumers to a movement we created in real time ... that was wavey. what a time.
so the culture didnβt die if itβs respawning into these new genres u mention then?
maybe i missed it but i think u lack the insight on how afroswing impacted afrobeats before the piano era
uk ppl devalue their own creations too much, whilst the rest of the world is inspired.
a lot of music is now a competition on who can be the most βauthenticβ or βrealβ or βvulnerableβ . but sometimes the biggest emotional truth is just in music that can make u feel powerful and swagged out . it doesnt happen a lot lately . so important for music to make u FEEL COOL
Iβve never seen the whole community collectively celebrate a Grammy win the way we all just reacted to @durandbernarr which is really a testament to someone being so deserving of recognition. Congrats! & Congrats to all the other well-deserved winners and nominees!!! π₯³π
