If you have good cover option for GW3 , a settled squad , no Brighton defence playing in GW2 & concrete plans for the spare ITB ( the least important). I don’t see any issue with Bruno > Palmer .
Before you say I’m knee jerking I have him already !
#fpl
He had the BALLS to light it all on fire after 90’ of football. He wildcarded GW2.
None of the I’ll wait after Arsenal-Chelsea woke nonsense. None of the “we don’t have enough data” discourse.
Recognize the mistakes, embrace them, red wedding the FPL terrorists in your squad
@FPLProp Yeh fully agree well played mate . Fpl twittter goes into meltdown over early transfers to beat a price drop for a possible season changing transfer & you can only take a-4 if you have 4 players dead .
Some of the things I noted in GW1🗒️
Arsenal - Coventry:
- Standard public-facing data generally doesn't show how good Tzolis was. His average position on the touch map would be deflated by how involved and how low he was in the build-up phase, while his number of box availability actions was insane. The way he offers himself in the penalty area, despite the fact that his teammates often don't see him as the addressee, still deserves attention. So far, it looks like Arsenal aren't that scared to allow quick central counters, so the variety of actions seems to be much greater than before.
- Set pieces are so good, but so different each and every time, that saying "I picked this guy because he'll most likely be the receiver on corners" would just be wishful thinking or a random guess. 8 corners this time with 7 different first-contact receivers for Arsenal. In this game specifically, attacking actions from corners mostly came from rebounds.
- Thomas and van Ewijk leave a lot of grass around them, which puts them in more isolated situations where even fairly average wingers can attack them. All 1v1s against Tzolis and Calafiori were lost.
Brentford - Spurs:
- The fact that Senesi creates danger for himself just to then clear the ball is amazing for DEFCONs. Not sure he continues to start with this kind of game, though.
- A bunch of wide isolations for Schade. Expect this against inexperienced, slow, or defensively weak RBs. He's essential for competing in the air and physically protecting or redirecting long balls when the GK or CBs play long into the advanced line, so I think his minutes should be more secure than most expect. Anthony replaced Thiago and, and in 20 minutes created 2 of the best chances of the game.
- Great amount of high recoveries from both teams. Sangare hit DEFCONs, but playing 77 minutes isn't ideal. Before the season, I said he's going to play his first matches against teams that allow the most loose-ball actions but 4 of his recoveries were situations where the ball just flicked to him, he wasn't even moving towards it to make the touch. I'm not sure these types of "defensive" actions are projectable, and I still think he needs more consistent minutes for consistent DC returns, especially against teams that generate fewer dangerous half-space losses.
- Brentford use wide overloads to open the box for an unexpected late full-back runner, something I noticed in pre-season and that continues to work, as we can see.
- Thiago's presence makes direct balls, wide runners and midfield arrivals more dangerous, but from an FPL perspective, that's not what I want from my striker.
City - Bournemouth:
- As expected, pretty big fitness mismatch. Semenyo lost almost all his 1v1s to Smith, and even the ones he won, Smith was able to manage with his recovery pace. A bit of an alarm bell for George or potentially Ndiaye.
- City's high line and aggressive rest defence gave Bournemouth positional dominance with transition exposure.
- 2 key passes from Cherki in 32 minutes. One to keep a close eye on.
- Guehi dominant on set pieces, Haaland with huge OP numbers. Watching the Palace match from behind a sofa.
Brighton - Aston Villa:
- Brighton's pressing and quick attacking reactions can punish opponents who play loose passes or leave centre-backs exposed. The speed of exploitation after an error was excellent.
- Georginio Rutter repeatedly isolated Pau Torres, attacking an exposed left defensive channel.
Newcastle - Liverpool:
- Low box presence from Newastle but they scored twice from rapid counterattacks. They can concede territory deliberately, then attack immediately once the opponent loses the ball with numbers advanced. Liverpool created a huge volume, yet the spacing behind the ball was not protected. If your double pivot is smoking shisha in the opposition box, one ball loss may cost you everything.
- No open-play threat from Szobo, but when 43% of your team's threat comes from dead-ball situations, who gives a shit?
Hull - Manchester United:
- Hull accepted United's possession, defended with a low block, and then attacked directly once they regained the ball. United moved the ball too slowly and struggled to use the full width. Classic tactic, but it works: deny central access, force as much sterile circulation as you want, then use early vertical passes into the gaps.
- Slow circulation and weak midfield connections are limiting Man United's chance creation.
- Not sure I want to start Lammens. This pre-season trend of opponents closing the central lanes and inviting wide possession until United show faster switches and cleaner access between the lines is worrying.
Other matches:
- Teams with fast wide players may target Sunderland once their full-backs push up and their possession structure stretches. Their rest defence and protection of the wide channels should be a major GW2 check.
- If Ipswich maintain that duel level, they can remain competitive even in matches where the opponent controls the ball. It also supports their direct transition game: winning the first contest turns defensive work into an attacking platform. Good for DEFCONs, good for Emersonn.
- Farke's Leeds remain compact after losing territory, which will make them difficult to beat in tight fixtures. The key test is whether that defensive calm remains when opponents have faster wide attackers or force more cutback situations. Personally, I'm not 100% sure.
- Try to find something fun and enjoyable in this game. If you only care about the result, copy FPL Harry.
