Something personal: After 5 glorious years with @dailymaverick, it's time to move on. I have enjoyed working at Daily Maverick. These folks are overachievers & insanely talented. I'm with Daily Maverick until Valentine's Day. What's next for me? I have no plans. Basking in rest.
"Journalists like to boast about holding corrupt and unethical politicians to account. If we are to be taken seriously by politicians and the public, we must hold each other to the same standards," says GroundUp, which has led the way in exposing lottery-related malfeasance. Here's the latest on the Makhudu Sefara saga, and the positions adopted by @SAEditorsForum : https://t.co/rwraVIZ5AC
Karin Richards, my dear wife of 38 years has sadly passed away, she had been ill for a very long time and fighting hard but unfortunately can fight no more. I am sure you will all miss her posts as will I.
Her loving husband.

@mbele_lnb This is beautiful. So happy for you and hubby-to-be. What a beautiful looking couple. When love wins ππ, it also inspires β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
JOURNALISTS, here is an unsolicited tip.
Get out of the comfortable, air-conditioned studio or office. Go outside & touch some grass. Many important court cases go quietly unnoticed. Several State Capture-related cases are currently unfolding in court.
πΏπ¦ has so many stories!
WOW! One of the State Capture cases quietly playing out in court is now settled. Nedbank to pay R600m to Transnet for its role in executing questionable financial transactions, knows as interest rate swaps, in 2015/16. R600m is chump change! Transnet wanted R10.5bn from Nedbank.
This ππΎ, Joburg residents, is our Mayor. A master gaslighter. A Mayor who discounts your lived experience in the city and its dysfunction. Note his response to valid critique about the sudden cosmetic improvements in the city. As residents and ratepayers, we deserve much better!
You should be ashamed for neglecting to perform a simple Google search, which could have provided you with much more detailed information about the project.
.@PressSec: "The United States is not participating in official talks at the G20 in South Africa. I saw the South African President running his mouth a little bit against the United States and @POTUS... and that language is not appreciated by @POTUS and his team."
NO! Spotting an em dash (β) in someone's writing is not an automatic indicator of AI use. I β€οΈ using em dashes. Brilliant 18th, 19th & 20th-century writers like Jane Austen, Charles Dickens & Henry James used them extensively. Are you accusing them of using AI in their writing?
And even if his ties to the Commission were disclosed, that is not enough. Conflict of interest applies whether it is real or merely perceived. He should stay far from steering conversations on air, on the topic. @eNCA , what does your editorial policy say about this?
I agree. Also, if you look closer at his LinkedIn profile, he even worked as legal counsel to the Commission during the media market inquiry itself. He should not have "anchored" a discussion about his own work and about his employer, in my view.
About ethics. "Journalists" working with companies & being paid for campaign/promotional work is a big NO-NO. It compromises journalistic integrity, widens the trust deficit between the public & media. There's no way you can do this & be a journalist. An influencer, maybe? Yes.
Unbelievable and unacceptable, Chris. Media ethics and conflict of interest are thrown out the window. Some journalists treat ethics like an accessory β picking and choosing which parts to follow. No wonder there is a huge trust deficit between the public and the media.

Media platforms surprise me sometimes. Like @enca. The βjournalistβ hosting their discussion on a Competition Commission report tonight is actually an employee of β¦ the Competition Commission. Iβm sure heβll be completely objective, though.
The National Treasury's Ismail Momoniat played a big role in getting πΏπ¦ out of the Financial Action Task Force's grey list. The removal from the greylist is good news, but there's still a lot of work to do in sharpening tools against money laundering & terrorism financing.

About @HomeAffairsSA services. I might be mistaken, as most people interact with Home Affairs once every few years. Iβm impressed by the reform β the turnaround time for applications. From application to collection, it took 3 weeks for my passport and smart ID to be ready ππΎππΎππΎ
