I come from Jammu region. I am proud of my identity, my state & my glorious past. Some non-local RSS agents are trying to defame Jammu by writing against Kashmir which always stood with their brethren in valley. I am Jammu, I am Kashmir. I am J&K.

In case of Parvez Ahmed’s killing, suspension of two cops, constitution of a SIT, magisterial probe and a highly emotional speech by an SP to the extent of calling the deceased a martyr is all put together a very good crisis response action. Let’s understand that this package is clearly nowhere closer to an assurance of justice. Parvez’s case is heart wrenching but this can’t be seen in isolation as a one off incident. Looking at the sequence and pattern of a number of incidents over last six to eight months, the Gujjar community has a strong feeling of either being specifically targeted or not being factored in as worthy of consideration as a human stock. If the authorities think exclusion of this community with a strong feeling of alienation and injustice was their political objective then they have almost achieved it. If there is case of rogue elements colluding with political interests at isolated smaller levels, then an all encompassing legal, administrative and political process must take place towards confidence building keeping in view overall strategic and security interests as specific to Jammu and Kashmir.
This is now becoming intolerable. Considering the gravity of situation, LG lead administration should ensure justice at earliest otherwise there will be widespread protests in every nook and corner of J&K.
Atrocities against tribals continue. In Dagman Dhok, Srinagar, several were brutally beaten by forces 2 critical.I appeal to Hon’ble LG to rein in such excesses. Stop this provocation. Protect tribal lives @manojsinha_@ChinarcorpsIA@JmuKmrPolice@GreaterKashmir@FreePressK
Parvez Dewan, J&K Government's Tourism Secretary, called us to a press conference to unfold how his department was going to promote tourism in Kashmir. In a few days, the war in Kargil shattered all the dreams. Years later, a local newspaper carried a story with pictures, perhaps of a musical fountain. The next day, a chain of terror attacks in Srinagar shattered all the dreams. In the midst of a bustling tourist season one day, some tourists from Gujarat were killed in a grenade attack on their bus outside the Nishat Garden in Srinagar. Kashmir was left deserted. Every time, nonetheless, tourism returned. For sure, it will again return to Betaab and Baisaran. But the key stakeholders and beneficiaries shall have to be compassionate. They should not charge Delhi-London and Delhi-NY rates for Delhi-Srinagar. They should not charge ₹60,000 for a hotel room which sells at ₹3,000 in Delhi and other prime cities. Jammu and Kashmir is the land of Rishis, saints, holy caves and shrines. All visits should be treated and conducted like pilgrimage tourism. Those who really want to defeat terrorism with tourism should immediately start visiting Kashmir in droves. Some Western countries' negative travel advisories should be withdrawn immediately. Every single notified tourist spot should be made secure and declared as OPEN for all tourists. The much touted Bollywood is also missing. It should be encouraged to come and shoot. Let the two Cabinet meetings of all Ministers and bureaucrats at Pahalgam and Gulmarg be the beginning of the change.
I have been briefed about reports of over 500 individuals being rounded up by the SOG in sweeping nocturnal raids across Kashmir. The number is suspected to be much higher in actuality. I fail to imagine the terror of a family whose loved ones now lie in the abyss of an opaque security system. This is not security. This is punishment by exile.
I unequivocally condemn the attack on the Territorial Army soldier and his family. Violence, especially against women and children, is abhorrent. But to punish an entire population for the crimes of a few is not counterterrorism - it is collective retribution. The establishment in Kashmir and in Delhi need to arrive at a common denominator as far as conducting operations in Kashmir is concerned. The use of vague, legally unsound terminology such as “OGWs,” “Hybrid Militants”, etc. to justify human rights violations must be shunned.
No regime in the world has successfully governed a population by making itself the object of its people's fear and resentment. I strongly remind you of the moral calculus at play here, if you must rule by repression, then you have already lost your legitimacy. If your idea of democracy is a valley silenced by fear rather than engaged in dialogue, then your democracy lies in darkness.
Ten years ago, the morning of December 23, 2014, felt much colder than today’s. It was as early as 9 am that results of that year’s Assembly elections began to suggest a hung House.
Of all claimants to power, the BJP was most confident to have projected its 44+ since the summer months. Marooned by the floods of that year NC was fighting a lost battle right from the beginning. So was the Congress.
The most formidable competitor, PDP had fought this election tooth and nail against BJP. Putting its ‘self rule’ and ‘healing touch’ slogans behind, the PDP went to the voters as the only possible bulwark against BJP. So did the BJP in Jammu, with Prime Minister personally on the frontline of the campaign.
Only the foolish would have thought of an alliance between these two; the wise, however, were probably on the job.
Was it spontaneous or well thought out? Muzaffar Beg Sahab was brought out of his periodic hibernation to talk to the TV which had already stitched a studio alliance. As he began to accept the possibility of PDP aligning with BJP, the local reporters stood shocked!
Beg Sahab’s oratory and convincing power was put to best use. As I recall, when someone asked about normalising BJP and RSS in Kashmir’s identity sensitive politics, his key emphasis was on India as an uninterrupted civilisational dialogue. Sounded interesting!
While Beg Sahab handled Times Now + Naeem Akhter Sahab engaged with NDTV +. With this art of possibilities explained, it was now over to Haseeb Drabu Sahab to settle the technicalities with Ram Madhav Sahab.
It was much later, two months later, that stories of Mufti Sahab’s vision, statesmanship, courage and boldness to take risky decisions in interest of Kashmir started rocking the print media of Delhi and Mumbai in interview after interview.
On February 24, 2015, when Mehbooba Mufti Sahiba, accompanied by Beg Sahab, met with Amit Shah Sahab and on February 27, 2015, when Mufti Sahab, accompanied by Drabu Sahab, met with Modi Sahab, it looked so normal as if the campaign speeches of the previous years, from both sides, has been erased from our minds.
On March 1, 2015, the General Zorawar Singh auditorium was a rare spectacle when old and new BJP graced the stage one last time. Special emphasis on Advani and Joshi, the Vajpayeean relics!
Rest is the history!
National Conference MP Agha Ruhullah Mehdi has announced to sit on dharna outside the Chief Minister’s residence tomorrow 2pm on issue of reservations. He has also invited everyone effected and everyone else in support of the effected.
It is a matter of very basic public knowledge that current scheme of reservations has been engineered by the Centre through Acts of Parliament in what should be seen as post 370 social restructuring plan. It is part of the wider package that would need decades to undo, if at all there is need, will, political and social consensus and power to do that.
Why make Chief Minister target of the anger when he has no power to undo this in the present circumstances and even when the elected government has hardly any powers to conduct the routine business.
There are thousands of structures raised on state land but Kathua administration deliberately choose a Masjid for bulldozing to appease a particular section of fanatics. Any such unlawful adventure by administration shall not be tolerated. This isn’t how welfare state functions.
