This weekend, I had the honour of chairing the 2nd Quarter National Governing Council (NGC) Meeting of the Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Professionals (KAMMP) in Mombasa in my capacity as the Association’s President.
We were warmly hosted by the KAMMP Coast Branch under the able leadership of Dr Mohammed Shaush (Branch Chair) and Dr Jalab Ashraph (Vice Chair). Together with their team, they did an outstanding job coordinating a productive, well-organised, and welcoming gathering. Masha’Allah.
The meeting on Saturday brought together our national and branch leaders to review progress, strengthen governance structures, and align on the strategic priorities that will guide the association into its next phase of impactful development. Discussions focused on constitutional matters, organisational structure, branch development, membership engagement, leadership succession, and programmes aimed at enhancing the contribution of Muslim healthcare professionals to healthcare delivery and community service in Kenya.
We were delighted to formally welcome Feisal Mbarak, our new Director of Programs, and Khalil Abdullahi, who recently joined the Secretariat as National Administrative Secretary under the leadership of our Secretary General, Dr Abdallah Bajaber.
We also received an update from Dr Mohammed Maalim, Chairperson of the Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) 2026 Organising Committee, on preparations for the 8th KAMMP Scientific Conference, scheduled for 8th–10th October 2026 at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort, Mombasa. The conference which is the headline event of the year for KAMMP promises to be an important platform for professional development, scientific exchange, networking, and mentorship. Registration is now open.
I extend my sincere appreciation to all NGC members, branch leaders, committee chairs, and members of the Secretariat for their active participation, valuable insights, and commitment to the continued growth of KAMMP. Special thanks once again to our Coast Branch hosts for their exceptional hospitality and dedication.
As KAMMP continues to grow and mature as a national professional body, we pray that Allah (SWT) blesses our efforts, strengthens our unity, and grants us success in serving our profession, our patients, and our communities with excellence, integrity, and compassion.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers of the world, especially those who have fought for human dignity, liberty and equity, and those who have been persecuted, detained, tortured, maimed, exiled or murdered for their commitment to freedom.

As the curtains close on this year's Kenya Diabetes Study Group (KDSG) Annual Scientific Conference at Lake Naivasha Resort, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who took the time to visit the Dr. Kalebi Labs (DKL) booth and engage with our team.
Over the course of the conference, we had the privilege of connecting with clinicians, endocrinologists, diabetologists, researchers, laboratory professionals, healthcare leaders, and industry partners who share a common commitment to improving diabetes and metabolic health outcomes in Kenya.
The conference theme, "The Evolving Face of Diabetes and Metabolic Health in Kenya: From Prevention to Precision," provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and meaningful discussions on the future of patient care, diagnostics, and precision medicine.
We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Kenya Diabetes Study Group and the organizing committee for putting together an outstanding scientific meeting that fostered learning, collaboration, and innovation.
A special thank you to all delegates who attended the presentation by our Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Rabia Mukadam, on Precision Diagnostics in Endocrinology, and to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about DKL's advanced diagnostic capabilities and specialized testing solutions.
We leave the conference inspired by the conversations, partnerships, and opportunities that emerged over the past few days, and we look forward to continuing our contribution towards advancing precision diagnostics and better healthcare outcomes across Kenya and the region.
Thank you, KDSG 2026. Until next time.

Today marks the end of a legal chapter and the beginning of a renewed phase of action. The Employment and Labour Relations Court has upheld the legitimacy of the @kmpdu elections, affirming the democratic will of our members and allowing the Union to move forward with clarity and focus.
This victory is not about individuals; it is about protecting the collective voice of doctors, pharmacists, and dentists across Kenya. It reinforces our commitment to unity, solidarity, and the pursuit of better working conditions for all healthcare workers.
Our focus now shifts fully to delivering on the issues that matter most to members:
1) Full implementation of CBAs and Return-to-Work Formulas
2) Payment of salary arrears and postgraduate fees
3) Immediate deployment of medical interns
4) Improved working conditions across all health facilities
5) Negotiation and conclusion of the 2025–2029 CBA
The distractions are behind us. The work ahead is clear. Together, we will continue to defend the welfare of healthcare workers and strengthen Kenya’s health system for the benefit of all.
Men,
When people betray or disrespect you
Your first instict is to defend, explain or attack,
That is weakness.
Don't explain, defend or argue with people who have chosen to misunderstand and betray you.
Block and go.
Guard your mental frame.

Today was an incredibly emotional day as we bid farewell to one of our most cherished members of the DKL family, Ms. Vanessa Wairimu Mburu, whose official last day with us was warmly commemorated with flowers, cake, laughter, memories, and more than some few tears.
Vanessa joined Dr. Kalebi Labs (DKL) in August 2024 as a fresh intern, right in the thick of setting up and commissioning the laboratory ahead of our registration and licensing in September 2024. She was among the many Gen Z staff that I chose to bet on (instead of older experienced candidates) during those exciting and defining early days, becoming part of the pioneering team that helped transform an innovative, distributive and disruptive homegrown vision into reality.
With a focus on Microbiology and Haematology, Vanessa was exposed to some of the most advanced diagnostic technologies in Africa, including several first-of-their-kind installations in Kenya. She quickly mastered platforms such as the Sysmex UN-Series Automated Urinalysis Solution, Sysmex XN-31 malaria analyser, Sysmex XN-9100 integrated with Roche Total Laboratory Automation, and the Roche cobas t511 coagulation system.
What stood out from the beginning was her humility, willingness to learn, and determination to excel. She grew rapidly in confidence and became an indispensable member of the team that achieved ISO 15189 accreditation by December 2024 … an extraordinary milestone for a homegrown laboratory built from scratch in record time.
Vanessa truly found her niche in Microbiology, mastering the BD Phoenix and BACTEC systems (later adding Vitek2 from bioMérieux) while also contributing to AI-assisted workflows in Andrology, Flow Cytometry, NGS, and DNA testing. She played an important role in helping her departments excel in CAP proficiency testing and external quality assessment programmes, helping uphold the culture of quality that defines DKL.
Her career progression was nothing short of remarkable. In less than a year, she rose from junior intern to senior intern, then to full-time employee, and ultimately to Head of Department, Microbiology. The growth was earned through hard work, discipline, resilience, commitment, and an unwavering desire to improve.
Beyond her technical accomplishments, Vanessa has been an exceptionally amiable colleague, dependable team player, and genuinely kind person whose positive spirit touched everyone she worked with. The heartfelt tributes and applause from her colleagues today spoke volumes about the respect, admiration, and affection she has earned.
Vanessa, thank you for pouring your heart into @DKLDrKalebiLabs from day one to the very last hour today. Thank you for being part of a wonderful team that helped build not only an innovative laboratory of the future, but also a culture of excellence, integrity, teamwork, and service. We are immensely proud of the professional you have become and grateful for the contribution you have made to our patients, our team, and our journey.
I’ve had the privilege of being an employer to hundreds of staff over the past 1½ decades of my entrepreneurial career and one of the greatest satisfactions is not merely building the labs as institutions, but helping build people - particularly watching young recent graduates and interns grow into confident professional and leaders in their fields - and that has been one of the most rewarding parts of the DKL story since starting the journey in May 2024.
Vanessa leaves with her head held high, our deepest gratitude, and our very best wishes.
She will always be part of the DKL family.
May her next chapter be filled with even greater success, growth, fulfilment, and impact 🌟
