Scrutiny of documents found at @calcotpark continues.

During WWII, sheep grazed the course, the greens fenced off with wire nets. This led to these 1941 local rules but the sheep preferred to chomp the greens as shown in the greenkeeper's 1944 report.

A visit to @calcotpark yesterday to inspect an amazing discovery of documents relating to the course's build and its pre-war upkeep.

These plans are of Colt's original routing and the proposed development of some boundary land. Incredibly helpful.

Golf architects like the great Harry Colt are masters of their trade. They built courses for all levels of golfers to be tested on. Unfortunately the new way in which to make courses "harder" is narrow fairways and plant trees along them! This needs changing.

The driveable par 4 10th hole

Measuring roughly 270 yards. The current space between the bunkers allows for a 'run up' shot into the green.

Can't wait to see how this plays out when the original bunkers go back in!

Alongside our Regeneration plan we are looking at ways in which we can improve the surfaces being offered to the members. Although trees are nice to look at, they cast a very large shadow over fairways. Thus affecting the growth of grass beneath.

7th now Vs original. Lots of bunker work to be done here in the new plan as you can see. Very tricky Colt green with a tight run off area over the back of the infinite green

@ianmcinally1 The at the back of the green will be made less severe I think to make a run off area. It was built up mainly to accommodate a new tee to the left but this will be move back into the trees with the new plan 👍

14th green comparison. Classic Colt bunker cut into the slope on the original. Unfortunately it has been completely lost over the years. But it will be brought back 🙌

@ianmcinally1 Especially when a nice classic ditch was removed to build them. The ditch will be re instated and the front of the green slightly raised as it's fallen at the front making it almost impossible to hold a ball in the summer

@detroitgolfer1 @Hainesy76 The original was done by Harry Colt. The design team at Clayton Devries and Pont (CDP) are over seeing the renovations work

@detroitgolfer1 @Hainesy76 The majority of work will be bunker based. Moving to more original locations and create the Colt classic shaping of then which has been lost. Few holes will receive new tee locations to keep up with new equipment distances aswell
