The amount of employees you have isnโt impressive anymore. Revenue per employee is.
Call me crazy but that's my POV.
I just met a VC-backed founder who told me his 2021 startup just hit 300 US employees.
Giant smile on his face waiting for me to be in awe. But this doesn't feel like a huge win to me (although happy for him).
I'm more impressed with smaller teams. Way more interesting.
Especially ones that leverage automation, AI and social content.
Instead of generating $100,000 per employee, you generate $1M per employee.
Wow. Tell me how. That's really interesting.
Oh, you're customer care team is 99% powered by AI?
Wow. Tell me how. That's really interesting.
Oh, your marketing team is 1 person who manages a few agencies?
Wow. Tell me how. That's really interesting.
The number of employees used to be a badge of honor.
But in 2024...
I don't think it is anymore.
โApply to YC, get plugged into all the best builders of your generation, stay in San Francisco, and go all in now. Elements of the periodic table of startups are being discovered right now, and you all are the physicists.โ @garrytan
โ๏ธ If you want to build something innovative (in any sector), you need to start with building something small (that works for a small number of people/caters to a niche need).

The founder of a failing startup emailed me saying that his investors were trying to make him go work for one of their portfolio cos. What should he tell them? I told him he could tell them from me that this was the mark of a noob investor.
Positive energy is contagious.
This applies in life, startups, business, entrepreneurship, whatever.
Say thank you to others often.
Help and root for others to succeed.
Be happy when others win.
Remind others you appreciate them.
Small acts of kindness go a long way.

11 years ago I had a meeting with Marvel Studios about the possibility of doing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I remember driving home & thinking I didn't want to make a movie LIKE Star Wars, but a movie that made people FEEL like Star Wars made me feel as a kid. Outlandish characters, extraordinary locations, a space opera with a touch of magic filled with heart. Thank you, Star Wars, for inspiring me, & how appropriate that the third part of our trilogy is playing in theaters all across the world tonight on May the 4th. #MayThe4thBeWithYou #GotGVol3
