Several of the witnesses under the tent at the time of the stabbing took the stand, many of them black, and said Karmelo was asked to leave the tent about “15 times” and was acting as the aggressor.

They also said Karmelo had his hand in his bag prior to Austin pushing him.

They also said Karmelo kept saying “touch me and see what happens,” while his hand was in the bag.

They also testified Austin said “there’s nothing in your bag, this is Frisco,” indicating Karmelo was or was giving the illusion he was wielding a weapon.

They also said Karmelo and Austin were arguing for about 2 minutes before Austin pushed Karmelo. But the push wasn’t hard enough for Karmelo to be moved backwards.

They also said the immediate, instantaneous reaction from Karmelo after Austin touched him was the stab. Almost synchronized, the push, then the stab, in one motion.

They also said that Karmelo wasn’t being “ganged up on.”

The coaches on scene testified that they had to prevent Karmelo from leaving until the police arrived.

The police who investigated the scene received a confession from Karmelo that he stabbed Austin and that it was “self defense.”

Coaches have also testified that students from other schools are not allowed under other team’s tents. The athletes often store their backpacks and belongings there.

No evidence presented so far suggests the self-defense argument will stand. Being somewhere you’re not supposed to be, being asked to leave repeatedly by the people who are allowed to be there, and a push in the shoulder from an unarmed teenager at a school event does not warrant use of deadly force to the point of death.

I have absolutely no problem sending a white person to jail if they’ve committed a crime or hurt/kill someone else. I don’t know why non-whites struggle holding their own to the same standard and accountability. Bad people come in every race, nationality, creed, and religion. I don’t discriminate. You shouldn’t either.

And I’m not making any guarantees. I’m offering an opinion. You seem to be implying that I’m picking a side based on race instead of, you know, all of the information that has come out that destroys the self-defense argument.

The trial started on Thursday and the prosecution rested its case yesterday. This will be on the very short-end of murder cases in terms of duration. Most last weeks.

The video doesn’t show anything. There were dozens of witnesses who testified, there are official police reports, the defendant confessed to stabbing him, etc.

Unless the defense team was able to prove to the jury that stabbing an unarmed teenager at a school-sanctioned event meets all of the prerequisites for self-defense based on a one-handed shoulder push, he’s going to prison.

Unless you fell victim to racial tribalism, then this is a pretty open and shut case.
