The easiest way to look uninformed is to defend the failed administration of @officialABAT without addressing the realities Nigerians face every day.
Hon_CBN
I was privileged to flag off the distribution of teaching and learning materials, including smart boards, core textbooks, school bags, sandals, pencils, and exercise books, as well as sports equipment, to Basic Education Schools in Abia State, a commendable initiative by the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). This milestone event, held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, marks a significant step towards shaping the future of our children.
This exercise is more than just a distribution of resources; it's an investment in the potential of our young minds. It's about equipping our dedicated teachers with the necessary tools to excel. As education is the cornerstone of sustainable development, providing adequate resources is a strategic move towards ensuring quality education for all.
At the International Women Leaders Conference 2026 in London, I was honoured to deliver a keynote address to a distinguished gathering of leaders, policymakers, development partners, and advocates committed to advancing women's cause on “Leveraging Leadership as a Catalyst for Women Empowerment.” The reality is stark: women empowerment is no longer aspirational, but an urgent necessity. A nation's progress is inextricably linked to its women's progress. No society can reach full potential if half the population is excluded from shaping its future.
Leadership must dismantle barriers, create opportunities, and amplify women's voices. When leadership ignores women, development suffers. But when women are empowered, societies flourish. It strengthens households, stabilize communities, and boosts national prosperity. It’s a strategic investment in development and not a favour to women.
I emphasized that women's representation in politics is groundbreaking, yet lacking. In Nigeria, women occupy only 15% of parliamentary seats, far below global benchmarks. The Reserved Seat Bill aims to address this. Abia State has taken steps to increase women's inclusion in governance, with 17 of 21 Permanent Secretaries being women.
Leadership must also protect women and girls from violence, ensuring empowerment isn't just a concept. This pursuit for women empowerment is a shared responsibility. The next generation watches our every move. Let's widen the path for women, making it fairer and more accessible.
ABIA IS COMMITTED TO ESTABLISHING SAFETY COMMISSION, SAYS GOV. OTTI.
Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to establishing the Abia State Safety Commission to ensure effective regulation of safety standards across homes, offices, markets, and industries in the State.
Governor Otti made this known on Friday, March 6th, in office, when he received members of the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, led by its Chairman, Hon. David Idris Zakarias.
The Governor disclosed that Abia State has already commenced the process of establishing the Commission, explaining that the policy has received State Executive Council approval and is awaiting legislative action for full implementation.
He emphasized that beyond setting up the Commission, public reorientation on safety consciousness is crucial to prevent disasters and protect lives and property.
“What I find even more important is the reorientation of our people, letting them understand that some of their practices, especially in markets and workshops, expose them to risks rather than protect them.
“In some markets, you see dark-line electrical wires and combustible materials kept unsafely. We must continue to educate our people and ensure fire extinguishers are available," Governor Otti stated.
Speaking further, Gov. Otti said, “Safety is all - encompassing, it’s not just about fire, though fire is the most frequent emergency here.
The Governor promised to ensure that his administration's safety policy initiative is properly legislated, so that future administrations can build on it, and not discard it when he leaves office.
The State Chief Executive noted that Abia already operates over 10 fire trucks and expressed his government’s determination to deploy fire fighting machines across all local government areas of the State.
While commending the Committee’s efforts, the Governor urged them to encourage other States to work towards establishing safety commissions as Abia has already queued in.
“This is a good initiative, and you should get other States to adopt it," the Governor added.
The Governor further stated that the focus is not on revenue generation but on safety and protection of lives and investments.
Earlier, Hon. David Idris Zakarias explained that the Committee’s visit was to propose the establishment of the Abia State Safety Commission (ASSC), noting that only Lagos State currently has it.
“We have observed that non-compliance with safety standards has negatively affected lives and businesses in Nigeria. Given the pace of industrial growth in Abia, there is a compelling need for a safety commission to protect citizens and investments,” Hon. Zakarias stated.
Also speaking, Dr. Iwu Finian, the Health and Safety Consultant to the Committee, commended Governor Otti’s transformative leadership, citing Abia’s expanding investments in manufacturing, construction, oil services, and agro-processing sectors. He noted that the absence of a dedicated safety regulatory body exposes the public to health and legal risks while limiting potential revenue opportunities.
In attendance were the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna; the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, Barr. Cleopatra Ubani.

Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Abia State.
March 6th, 2026.
I am not surprised by your performance,
Your sincere desire to transform Abia State, your consistency even when you were robbed by the process on two occasions.
You still kept the vision alive not minding the challenges and obstacles.
God bless u @alexottiofr ( Chioma Ndi Abia).
2025 marks a turning point for millions of Ndi Abia across our 17 LGAs and 184 wards, spanning over 500 communities. From the start, we pledged that no part of the State would be neglected. Our goal is to revive the levers of our economy and create an environment that supports the dreams and aspirations of our hardworking population.
Today, we flagged off the reconstruction of phases 1 and 2 of the 13.95-kilometre Onuinyang–Okporoenyi–Oboro–Ikwuano Road. The road connects the central and northern senatorial districts, linking tens of thousands of farmers to urban markets within and outside the State.
The 13-kilometre stretch is scheduled for timely completion and is designed to endure environmental factors. It will facilitate the transport of people and agricultural commodities, boost inter-community trade, and enhance social interactions among individuals, families, and clans.
From Nunya to Abam, Uzuakoli to Isuochi, Umuala to Umuopara, and across other semi-urban and rural communities, we are expanding opportunities for farmers and other players in the agro-allied business ecosystem.
I extend my gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Don Otumchere Oti, and his team for their professional direction in our road infrastructure restoration and expansion agenda. I expect them to maintain this momentum in the New Year and ensure this project is delivered on schedule and in line with design specifics. There should be no room for compromise, laxity, or breaches.

I had the distinct pleasure of gracing the 60th birthday celebration of an incredible and amazing woman, Mrs Arunma Oteh, OON, whose remarkable achievements in economics, finance, and scholarship have left an indelible mark on our nation's economy.
As a distinguished economist, financial expert, and leader, Mrs Oteh's unwavering commitment to nation-building is truly inspiring, and her contributions to the growth of our dear state, Abia, are a testament to her dedication to excellence.
We celebrated not only Mrs Oteh's birthday, but also her hard work, determination, and exceptional leadership skills that have inspired countless individuals and continue to make a positive impact on our world.

No other politician can say the things this man says. It comes with dreadful consequences, & no one wants that. But not for Peter. He is bold & consistent, I give him that. Peter Obi is going to lead Nigeria someday, & the much awaited “Nigeria: Odyssey to Greatness” will ignite.
