@AaronErickson@editingemily 100%! Managers over technical teams need to maintain their IC skills. Even if that’s doing 1 out of 100 or 1000 tasks yourself. You often uncover things that aren’t optimized quite yet, when you do them yourself.
@NicoleBeckwith People are creative at taking innocent or even positive comments in the most negative/cynical way, especially if it involves requires any level of change.
@divinetechygirl Super interested in what “permanently fixed” looks like, that seems to imply “unhackable” which I can’t imagine with any sufficiently complex system.
@bettersafetynet If networking is critical, I’m sure some in-person prestigious MBA programs can help. Otherwise, for just learning
lower cost business books seem useful vs university. Some InfoSec concepts are challenging without good teachers.
@JasonTheTodds@randomrecruiter like with anything, good management matters, but it’s a hot take to think top talent can’t come from lower cost geographies.
@bettersafetynet How do you define Tier 1? Seems like AI creates more intellectually stimulating work for Tier 2 analysts and which leads to more long-running and complex DFIR/malware/hunting investigations for Tier 3.
More experienced talent is needed, less entry-level talent.
@JasonTheTodds@randomrecruiter Executives are implying, if I don’t see you on-site anyways… I can continue not seeing that role through lower cost geographies to deliver work.
Like virtual vs physical anything (Dr. Appointments, Concerts, Workouts, etc.) many will pay a premium for in-person experiences.
@oluchiAudrey@ComandanteBowie Offshore would be hiring out of Malaysia, India, etc. Someone making $80k doing threat analysis (SOC) work in the US would probably be <$25k (paying above-market for their location) in India.
@oluchiAudrey@ComandanteBowie Agreed and every senior-level cybersecurity leader I know has identified high-potential talent for the next level. Entry-level hiring occurs, but it includes offshore talent.
@JBizzle703 Many cybersecurity leaders want to hire more entry-level staff, but automation and offshore talent (in lower cost geographies)… subtly tilts US hiring to more experienced, higher skill talent.
@cybersecmeg As an incident responder, I’ll support anything my team needs. Trade off is the team/leadership supports anything I need. Like my variable start times, variable end times, and random breaks… which they do! 😇
@cybersecmeg I’m blessed to be in the cyber industry, but having to protect/detect everything, while bad guys just need to find 1 entry point is stressful.
