Thrilled to be involved with a pioneering CAR-T trial in our patients with lupus with the fantastic #CAR-T team @uclh@drclaireroddie and our sponsor #Autolus
We desperately need better treatments for patients with kidney disease #lupusnephritis
Three patients have received an innovative treatment for the most serious form of #lupus.
The clinical trial is the first in the UK to assess the potential of CAR-T therapy to treat a disease other than cancer.

A paradigm change in management of Lupus Nephritis (LN)
In pts with proliferative LN & + anti-ds DNA, treatment should be aimed at immunological remission
Definition of response based on proteinuria is outdated

Huge loss for the renal community. A hilarious friend, fantastic colleague and brilliant nephrologist.
Tubular extraordinaire. Ben will be so very much missed by us all.
We are heartbroken to announce that Prof (Stephen) Ben Walsh, died peacefully on 30th Sept while surrounded by family & friends.
Both his family & @RenalUCL are raising funds to find a way to honour his memory and achievements. More info below:

Ben's passion for science & medicine was an integral part of who he was. And after self-diagnosing with lung cancer 18 months ago, he decided keep his condition private to protect his clinical and academic work. Remarkably Ben continued to work throughout his illness, right to the very end, ensuring that his students, colleagues and patients were taken care of, and that all he had built would continue on.
There are no words to really express the profound sadness we feel, the loss of a dear friend, colleague and mentor. He will leave a very large hole in our lives and he will not be forgotten.
Details of funeral/memorial services will be made available in due course.
We're also requesting anyone with pictures or videos of Ben to upload these to the Google Photos or Dropbox links below. We've also attached a link to a Google Doc for messages of condolence you may wish to leave for the family.

Game changing treatment with #SGLT2i#UKKW2024
With early use of SGLT2i, potentially delaying the start of dialysis for 26 years!
Even starting with GFR of 20, almost a 2 year postponement - time to prepare the patient for RRT.
Low levels of SGLT2i use in eligible CKD patients in primary care.
How can we do better and ensure patients have access to these renal-saving medicines?

@cheekaycheung great overview of IgA.
Take home messages:
Even with low levels of proteinuria, risk of ESRF with long term follow up @DannyGale_1
Future promising with new treatments on the horizon
The UK has the best hyperkalaemia guidelines in the world, and they’ve just been updated.

IgA nephropathy can progress to kidney failure. This study found that outcomes in a large IgA nephropathy cohort are generally poor with few patients expected to avoid kidney failure in their lifetime https://t.co/1cJlGYM0dz
