The Great Roblox Outage happened 5 years ago.

The outage lasted from October 28th to October 31st (2021), totaling more than 3 entire days. Before the outage begun, users were encountering issues on the platform before servers crashed. Afterwards, the remaining servers and website either crashed or became dysfunctional. Hours later, Roblox displayed the infamous image stating "We're making things more awesome. Be back soon." -- they were not going to be back soon.

Roblox posted nearly 70 hours after the issue begun that regions were gradually being brought back online, and after nearly 73 hours, Roblox posted that Roblox is finally back online. The outage marked the last time Roblox had 0 players, with the previous instance of 0 CCU happening in 2016.

While users have speculated that the in-game Chipotle promotion for free burritos running at the time had led to the servers being overloaded and shutting down, Roblox dismissed that rumor. The official cause of the outage was linked to alterations in Roblox's infrastructure, specifically with a streaming feature in the Consul Cluster & BoltDB freelist page manangement.

Dear fans who have been awaiting Selftercation,

I have to let you know about the current state of what was supposed to be the final installment of APRP Chapters.

TL;DR: Selftercation will now be developed as a storybook, & development of the game version has been put on hold indefinitely, with the possibility of cancellation.

Back in 2024, when APRP received a physical award from Roblox for surpassing a certain player milestone, I wanted to thank you all in a special way. That was when I began planning Selftercation. It was officially announced back in Spring 2025, & the announcement received mixed reactions, for which I’m grateful, including all the criticisms & feedback.

However, that very period also marked the beginning of my university life. I soon realized how little time I had left for my hobbies, & I began struggling to balance my academic, personal, & work life. The more I continued writing the story, the more I realized something: “This isn’t just a game. I want to make a movie.” But making a movie simply wasn’t feasible with the limited time & resources I had. I also wasn’t very skilled with all the tools at my disposal, which made some tasks take much longer than they should have. I tried to handle everything myself, but for my first-ever semi-realistic game, there was only so much I could accomplish alone.

At times, I wanted to cancel the project entirely & move on. At other times, I would find little sparks of motivation that encouraged me to keep going. Then came the development of Freeform Skin Creator in late 2025, which took approximately seven months to complete, including the time I had to dedicate to my academic studies. People loved it, & you would think that its success would have motivated me to continue Selftercation, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. There simply isn’t enough demand anymore, & the franchise itself has gradually lost much of its momentum since 2022, with fan games no longer playing as significant a role as they once did.

The more I forced myself to continue, the more I felt as though I were working alone in an abandoned, dark office, where everyone else had already left & moved on. I’ve spent six years on the same game, & as much as it means a lot to me, I don’t want to spend all my creative energy on it forever. I want to explore new ideas, develop original projects, & grow as a creator.

At the same time, cancelling Selftercation after building up so much anticipation, regardless of how much there truly was, would leave a lot of people disappointed. I don’t want to abandon everything I’ve developed for this project, either.

Thus…. I’ve decided to turn Selftercation into a storybook, which will also become my first-ever published book. I will do my very best to give it its own identity, so that it can stand independently rather than relying on its connections to anything else. As for the game version, development will remain on hold indefinitely unless a game studio becomes interested in picking up the project & bringing it to life. For now, I won’t be pursuing its development myself. In the meantime, I’ll continue working on the book’s visual materials, including posters, illustrations, & other promotional artwork intended to capture the atmosphere, emotions, & overall vision of Selftercation.
