Bill C-8 has recieved royal assent. It is now law in Canada.

The Minister can order telecom providers to suspend or prohibit services to specific persons if "necessary" for security. Opponents (e.g., CCF, privacy advocates) warn this could be abused to silence dissidents or critics, drawing parallels to the 2022 Emergencies Act invocation (bank account freezes). No strong pre-authorization or immediate review exists.
