When we say that the media are also to blame, when it comes to perpetuating the narrative that councils are counties, this is an example of what we mean.
North Somerset should NOT be used here, as the story is nothing to do with the local authority.
@BBCBristol@britishcounties
Saw this on a letter to my Mum.
Avon??! Really @uhbwNHS ??!
REALLY?? Itβs only been almost THIRTY years since that particular pretend county was happily kicked into touch! π
Weston is in SOMERSET. Then, now, forever!
@WSMERCURY@SomersetLive@bbcsomerset@britishcounties
@bbcsomerset Pity about the club closing.
Also a pity about the incorrect dramatic headline!
Team Bath Synchro exists, and is in Somerset!
This is just another example of the local media thinking that the Somerset Council area is the county of Somerset. It is NOT!
@RealCounties@UKCounties
To media teams in Somerset, broadcast and other.
Too often stories talk about things happening "across the county", or that are "Countywide", when in fact they're "Council wide".
With a little more care, these inaccuracies can stop.
@bbcsomerset@itvwestcountry@SomersetCouncil
Always interested to know about groups like ourselves elsewhere, so a genuine question, about our neighbours to the north.
Apparently it's Gloucestershire Day tomorrow. So is there a group championing that historic county?
@RealCounties@UKCounties@britishcounties@BBCGlos
As itβs @wsmrfc's 150th anniversary year, and my late Dad played for the club in the 50s and 60s, I wanted to buy something to mark this. Sad to see that the website of this proud SOMERSET club, displays its address as you see below! Come on Weston, please put this right!
Proof that @metoffice are among those that sadly are no friends of our counties. You do searches for the forecast, and places come up like this in their local authority area, rather than their county. Why Met Office, just why?
@britishcounties@RealCounties@UKCounties
Dumb name for a Council, and it turns out a dumb name for the body of water from which the council took it's name!
To translate then, the name of the river that marks the boundary between Somerset and Gloucestershire, is the River River π€

HAPPY SOMERSET DAY!! #1
Yes, it's OUR day! π
And whilst politicians and the media continue to present false narratives and representations of what is Somerset, we shall continue to tell the truth.
