Denying Genocide Is Violence: Why the @LiberalAus Must Drop Atal Zahid Safi

In 2021, six Afghan Australians submitted a deeply disturbing document to the Australian Parliament. It denied the historic and ongoing persecution of Hazaras, distorted human rights findings, and labeled the Hazara community a national security threat.

One of the co-authors, Atal Zahid Safi, is now the Liberal candidate for Bruce an electorate with one of the largest Hazara populations in the country. The hypocrisy is staggering.

While Canada’s Parliament has recognized the Hazara persecution as crimes against humanity and potential genocide, and while Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have documented systematic killings, Mr. Safi and his colleagues told Australians: “Don’t believe the Hazaras. They’re lying.”

This isn’t free speech it’s anti-Hazara racism dressed up as political engagement.

It is no coincidence that the authors most of Pashtun background mirror the same ethnic and ideological lines as past oppressors of Hazaras in Afghanistan. Their actions are not just harmful they’re rooted in supremacist thinking that has followed us into the diaspora.

We call on the Liberal Party to immediately disendorse Atal Zahid Safi and issue a public condemnation of the submission. A man who denies genocide cannot represent its survivors.

This is not about politics it’s about truth, dignity, and the safety of a vulnerable community.

Australia must be a refuge from hate not a platform for it.

"مهدی شانزده ساله، کودکی که تالبان بی رحمانه کشتند. دست‌ها و پاهایش در چند نقطه شکستگی داشته‌اند. در تصاویری که طالبان منتشر کرده، هم دیده می‌شود که دست راست مهدی از ناحیه‌ی بازو شکسته و ماهیچه‌ی آن پاره شده است؛ «پیکر [مهدی] تکه‌تکه شده بود. دست‌ها و پاها شکسته بودند. لباسش تکه‌پاره بود؛ انگار یک شاجور مرمی را سرش فیر کرده بود.» همچنین در تصاویر منتشرشده از پیکر او، پارگی لباس و رفتن دکمه‌های یخنش دیده می‌شود. این موارد نشان‌دهنده‌ی لت‌وکوب و شکنجه‌ی او، در چنگ طالبان است. گلوله‌هایی که بر پاهای او اصابت کرده، احتمالا در هنگام شکنجه و در چند نوبت شلیک شده است؛ «پای مهدی را ناکار کرده بودند. استخوان‌ها غژه‌غژه (تکه‌تکه) بود.» پس از آن‌که، کار طالبان با مهدی تمام می‌شود، با شلیک بر مغزش، زندگی را از او می‌گیرند. در تصاویر پیکر او، دیده می‌شود که گلوله از عقب چشم راستش شلیک و از نزدیکی چشم چپش بیرون شده است. این می‌تواند به این معنا باشد که طالبان او را با بازوی چپ بر زمین خوابانده و سپس بر سرش شلیک کرده اند. مهدی؛ کودکی که طالبان کشتند" – منبع اطلاعات روز

جناح فراکسیونی‌ اخیراً گزارش کنگره نامشروع خود را منتشر کرده است که نشان می‌دهد تنها ۳۱ نفر در آن شرکت کرده‌اند و بیشتر آن‌ها دوستان و خانواده‌های خودشان بودند. از موسسان و اعضای کلیدی شورا، تنها ۵ نفر حضور داشتند. نکته قابل توجه این است که حتی یک زن نیز در شورای اجرایی نامشروع آن‌ها انتخاب نشده است که دلالت بر افکار زن‌ستیزانه‌ آن‌ها دارد. شوراهای نمایندگی و شوراهای هزاره‌های اسماعیلی و هزاره‌های سنی، اکثریت اعضا، موسسان و هواداران شورای جهانی هزاره این کنگره را نامشروع و فاقد اعتبار اعلام کرده‌اند. #نامشروع #همبستگی_هزاره
