Findings show that people can reduce their heroin use and maintain improvements over the long term but we need to make sure evidence-based treatments for major depression and BPD are delivered to people with heroin dependence @MTeesson@TheMatilda_USyd@Jack_MWilson (2/2)
Excited to share the main findings from our 18-20y follow-up of 615 people with heroin dependence, first interviewed in 2001-02. At 18-20y only 1 in 4 people were using heroin but the mortality rate was devastating- especially when the mean age was 47 https://t.co/i72gx0ctgY 1/2

Russell Manser is:
- An Ex-Bank Robber
- Did over 26 years in prison
- Is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse
- Was addicted to heroin for years and years
and somehow...managed to turn it all around.
It's always possible to make a change.
Helpful reminder for me.
It upsets me to hear a grieving mother say - “my daughter was an addict who lost her battle with the disease of addiction.” I guess it’s better than not talking about it at all, but come on, we can’t only talk about drugs as if they were cancer. They aren’t.
It's hard to imagine when you first engage in recovery how your life will be different in the future.
BUT,
If you stick at it, no matter how low you get things always change for the better.
