10 minutes of TikTok was enough to impair people’s ability to remember and carry out intentions.
Twitter and YouTube didn’t show the same decline.
Rapid context-switching may be where most of cognitive cost is.
🚨 Brexit has reached its mathematical limit.
Britain 🇬🇧 wants its products treated as “made in Europe” while maintaining lower tariffs on Chinese 🇨🇳 goods. The EU will not let Britain become a back door through which Chinese products evade European trade defences.
So Britain has three choices:
🔹 Copy EU tariffs and rules without having a vote over them.
🔹 Diverge and accept new barriers against British industry.
🔹 Join the customs union, protect our supply chains and begin the route back to full EU membership, where Britain would help make the rules.
There is no sovereign 🦄 fourth option.
Outside every major trading bloc, Britain is not freer. It is squeezed between the EU, China and America, adapting to decisions made by all three.
@andyburnham these Brexit red lines do not protect British sovereignty.
They just preserve the machinery through which we continue to lose it.
Properly astonishing to me that these people can write that there are "indications of worsening trends following the Covid-19 pandemic" without apparently knowing that COVID IS A VASCULAR DISEASE THAT INCREASES THE RISK OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.
We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date.
It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them.
We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies.
These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve.
We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop.

@AnthropicAI This is exactly why I’m more worried about bad humans with powerful AI than AI becoming evil. AI doesn’t create the intent, it massively amplifies capability. The near-term risk is human malice, authoritarianism and greed armed with an increasingly powerful force multiplier.
The PCR positivity map is out, and national positivity is at 4.03% in Scotland, 6.66% (adjusted) in England.
There have been some quite large regional shifts, and I think testing is starting to increase.

"Humans will be competed to extinction."
Connor Leahy, US Executive Director of ControlAI, argues AI could make human labor and political power irrelevant.
The real risk is not just unemployment. It is humans losing control of the systems that run society.
History is about to reset.
In 1997, two historians mapped an 80-year pattern:
Revolution.
Civil War.
World War II.
Each cycle ends the same way — a hard reset.
And right on schedule…
we’re standing at the crisis again.
Four turnings.
Four types of people who decide what comes next.
Your role depends on when you were born.
This is Part 1 of “History Repeats. We’re at the Dangerous Part.”
Watch it. Then tell me we’re not in the Fourth Turning. 🎥
@MrMatthewTodd I’m less worried about AI becoming intelligent than about powerful AI being controlled by tribal, short-termist humans obsessed with power. The real challenge is whether AI amplifies our worst instincts or helps us cooperate as one civilisation without surrendering human agency.
🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: Scientists Develop Plant-Based Antiviral Chewing Gum That Neutralizes Over 95% of Flu and Herpes Viruses in Saliva
Building on earlier ACE2-based gum that cut SARS-CoV-2 in saliva by over 95% and is now in trials, the new gum targets a wider range of pathogens.
@drseanmullen@benking01 ✅ Precautionary principle: “There may be a serious risk, so take reasonable precautions despite uncertainty.”
❌ Cognitive dissonance: “Taking that risk seriously conflicts with how I want to live or with what I previously believed, so I psychologically downplay the risk.”
Britons are getting thicker at an alarming rate. It’s not organic, it’s radicalisation. Without disinfo legislation and social media regs we’ll become MAGA UK.
We used to laugh at Americans for this shit.
We’re not losing our culture to Muslims, we’re losing it to the US.
We need a major structural review of UK science. A series of government decisions over the last decade (including but not limited to the Brexit referendum and the subsequent fall out) have undermined this vital foundation of our economy - that is unarguable. The problems have been exacerbated by the recent hasty and opaque decision making in UKRI. What links these things together for me is the lack of a coherent analysis of the impact of each small decision on the whole ecosystem, from Universities to industry. Example: It may look reasonable on paper to move money from astrophysics to AI. But is it sensible if that precipitates the closure of a number of physics departments? Do those closures damage our AI industry more than the redirection of funds enhances it? I have seen no evidence of a careful analysis of this and many other questions.
