🚨'Humans, we have arrived!' Brazilians receive alien invasion alerts

Residents across Brazil were woken up by emergency alerts sent through the country's Civil Defense system. In Belo Horizonte, one message reportedly warned of a tornado before adding:

"Protect yourself: ALIEN ATTACK. Humans, we have arrived."

Other people received an 'extreme alert' containing the word misanthropy, meaning hatred or distrust of humanity. These messages arrived through channels associated with the same national warning system used for floods, storms, landslides and other genuine emergencies.

Obviously there was no alien invasion, although I imagine a few people briefly reconsidered every life decision they had ever made while staring at their phones in the middle of the night.

Brazil's government says the platform was remotely activated by someone outside the National Protection and Civil Defense System. The service was taken offline at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, and the Federal Police are now investigating what officials believe was a cyberattack.

The alien message is obviously funny, but the aliens did not invade Brazil, someone invaded Brazil's emergency alert system and thought that extraterrestrial disclosure would be hilarious.
