@shellenberger This is the US government’s official statement on it. It’s got nothing to do with the media or bipartisan politics. Whether you trust the government’s statement over independent whale researchers is a separate question. (Non-US here so don’t bother coming at me with politics)
@Lewis_Brackpool I’m all for using pen, it’s quick, makes sense, not a burden, and gets rid of this issue.
But…
In what world would a person erase your vote when they could just throw it away? If they’re in a position to whip out the eraser, why couldn’t they just put a handful of fake votes in?
@VIRTUAL_TRIS@JaneBransby@russellquirk This is good in theory. But terrible in practicality simply because of the increased cost. It’ll probably cost more in organisation than is saved in current cost of misuse. What companies are too fancy? What products have too many features? How do those lists stay up to date?
@BTC_will_win@DanielPriestley@peterrhague Ok, an excellent theoretical point. I’m a maths guy so this instantly makes sense to me. But do we have any evidence of where we are on the curve? Your point about millionaire migration implies we could be relatively far to the right, but doesn’t really prove that.
@FedorShabashev@Scienceseur@addyKapur@SNAFU_Sara@jonatanpallesen@TomChivers Nah. If acupuncture is actually something then there should be a difference between me (an untrained person) stabbing a guy with a needle and someone doing acupuncture. As a layman on the bed you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
@BDHorrigan @WalkRideGM@urban_splash@TomBloxhamMBE Why not both? The people in this comment section don’t run the building in question. They’re not able to get new bike racks installed. But they can offer advice on better technique to use the ones that are already there. The two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
@WalkRideGM@dgrievo@urban_splash@TomBloxhamMBE Both sides of this can be true: It is possible to think that you could have benefited from some advice in technique (given you’re not using the suggested technique in the video) and also that more accessible bike storage would be preferable. You don’t have to fight everyone.
@SusanneReid68@KusariNinja@Bikery1966 Except the speed difference here would be up to 125mph (according to a quick google) and on the road it’s most likely to be about 10.
I’m a cyclist and agree with your point, but exaggerating it 10 times over tends to give the impression you’re being unreasonable.
@Bikery1966 As a cyclist, this looks perfectly safe and reasonable to me. If you’re in the cycle lane and they’re not then what’s the problem? Cars drive close to the curb too, but there’s no pedestrians advocating for driving in the middle of the road. I just don’t get it.
@kaceytron@Angelica_Reed1@Asmongold@ZackRawrr As someone who knows nothing about this guy apart from the discussion in this thread:
One of you (you) is just spouting pop psychology with no evidence, and the other has given a compelling argument that’s not been refuted.
Do better, refute her. Get quotes, stats, anything?
@Elliot_the_Woke @bristolgreen The irony of randomly targeting this person and indirectly complaining that they have an opinion. Who made you this dense?
@realulmapache@nickreeves9876 Maths not your strong suit? Using your own numbers, in 1980 you could just buy the house outright for the same wage ratio (just over double your salary) required for a 25% deposit now. (Using median income and median house prices then and now). Thats night and day.
@nsehgal26@jennystojkovic@realpungao The harm is opportunity cost: The reason processed foods exist is because they’re cheaper, easier to transport, easier to package, have longer shelf life, have custom (marketable) nutrient profiles and often use more plant based ingredients which are broadly more carbon efficient
@GaetanPortal@jayrayner1@sainsburys What’s the complaint about self service checkouts? Genuine question. I wouldn’t go to a manned till unless it was completely free (which they generally aren’t). I mostly do basket sized shops, which are at least 4 or 5 times faster at self checkout.
@charlie_baker23@honest_gardener@ianwalker It was very clearly lighthearted. If you’d benefit from an alternate opinion here.
Also I shower for like 20-30 minutes after I’ve been exercising, mostly treating it as relaxation and pensive time, the actual washing is like 20% of why I’m in the shower. I think that’s common!
