Community screening is a must, but unfortunately we are far from it. Some testing sites in the US still turn away the symptomatic young. Only high risk and wealthy individuals seem to be getting tested. COVID-19 is severely underreported in the US.
Will this be enough? There's promise. But critical to Singapore and Hong Kong's success was also aggressive community screening and testing for people with COVID-19 symptoms and tracing plus self-quarantine for close contacts. We are still behind on those fronts.
It appears we are a week or so behind Italy. A ban on flights from Europe isn’t going to change that. More decisive federal action — massive testing and social distancing — appears to be necessary to “flatten the curve.”
