Announcing our latest on a morphological novelty, the posterior lobe. We set out to understand how it forms at the cellular level: IT IS A SINGLE CELL TALL! Its cells evolved connections to a dynamic and ancestral ECM to do this. Congrats to @_SJSmith_ ! https://t.co/wRZTJjFL8d
Our new @CurrentBiology paper provides a rare glimpse into a morphological novelty in Drosophila eugracilis
In it, @gavinrrice and colleagues, infer and reproduce the likely initial steps of a novelty's formation

Thank you to the O'Connor-Giles lab for updating the incredible CRISPR Optimal Target Finder to include D. eugracilis. @flystocks and @_NDSSC for lines, and @FlyBaseDotOrg for being our favorite database
Congrats to Sarah Petrosky (rebeiz lab grad student) for her latest article as an @SocDevBio communication intern!
FinchQuest is a game that takes the student from Darwin to embryos, offering a unique perspective on how scientific projects coalesce ๐

Second, I'v had a wandering eye all my life. It makes social interactions with new people hard because they don't know what I am looking at. My associated social anxiety causes me to often not want to make eye contact. I am sure this affected my performance in sundry interviews.
So proud of Sarah Petrosky (a PhD student in my lab), who just released a podcast episode for the @GeneticsGSA series "Genetics in Your World"
She interviews @tjsmerritt about his scientific journey, transvection and how a bad day in lab can turn out OK
