Mary Magdalene. Jesus Chose her as 1st Witness & Proclaimer of his Resurrection. “Apostle of the Apostles”. Mgd by RL Houlihan. “MM Proclaims”, M. Beaudette, SC
New from Mimi Silverstein @painter_fairy illuminates John 20:10-18 - the part of John’s Resurrection narrative the Roman Church hides, never reads on a Sunday. P1. “MM Stayed at the Tomb as Peter & the Other Left”(20:10-11) P2.“MM Proclaims” (Jn 20:18) #ReclaimMagdalene
@HeidiSchlumpf Perhaps Francis says “No” to Holy Orders because he can’t see Jesus Choose & Commission his most faithful disciple, Magdalene to proclaim his Resurrection (Jn 20:17). Jn 20:10-18 is sliced out of the Roman Lectionary on Easter Sunday. #ReclaimMagdalene https://t.co/yf9myOEzj7
@lnammey@MargMowczko Look at the Risen Jesus’ choice of Mary Magdalene as his 1st Resurrection witness (John 20:16-18). Peter & the “Beloved” were at the tomb because Mary Magdalene brought them. They left (Jn 20:10) She stayed & was Chosen to Proclaim! (Jn 20:11-18) #ReclaimMagdalene#Easter
@MargMowczko Yes - even earlier Luke - (8:1-3) introduces Mary Magdalene, Joanna & Susanna & “many others” (Grk. fem. plural) as a group equal & parallel to “the Twelve”. Both groups traveled & ministered w/ Jesus. Luke says these women were at the cross but not “the 12”. #ReclaimMagdalene
@ShotClockTodd@fionawoods46@JLLiedl Checkout John 20:1-18. Peter left the tomb without a word (20:10). Mary Magdalene stayed, Jesus called her by name (20:16), Commissioned her to proclaim his Resurrection (20:17). And she did - Mary Magdalene preached the first Easter Homily “I have seen the Lord.” (20:18)
@AlessandraH17 Thank you & Happy Easter Monday. I was struck by your photo of the empty tomb. That’s how the Catholic lectionary ends Easter - it cuts off Jn 20:10-18 so we don’t hear Jesus’ Resurrection invitation - that joy is embodied in Laura James’ #MaryMagdalene & the Risen Jesus series!
@CatholicNewsSvc I wish Pope Francis wld say the names of #MaryMagdalene & the “other Mary” - “the women discovered Jesus’ empty tomb, 1st to receive & proclaim #Resurrection revelation! This year we hear them in Mt 28:1-2, 28: 2-8, 28:10. Image Santa Sabina - Rome #Easter2023@FutureChurchUSA
The church has had a difficult time accepting the biblical portrait of Mary as one of Jesus’ closest and most faithful disciples. https://t.co/XrBzqzmcHK via @sojourners
It’s great that’s you could join BC’s St. Mary of Magdala celebration. Postcards of “MM Proclaims Resurrection” by M. Beaudette, SC & 7 x 5” reproductions of original bas-relief are available from @FutureChurchUSA or from me.

Beautiful St Mary of Magdala celebration with @bcstm at @ignatiuschurch and @BostonCollege today. Special thanks to @ReclaiMagdalene for sending us home with this beautiful image. St Mary of Magdala, Apostle to the Apostles, pray for us.
@JosephNollaSJ@brannylives Did you get you get to the part yet where #Aquinas takes Aristotle’s definition of woman as sub-human & integrates it into his theology?
@chaplainjoel@cgreathouse @KirkMcCall68 Pls read the #GOSPEL esp’ly John 20:1-18. #MaryMagdalene discovers empty tomb, alerts Peter, he & beloved go to see, but THEY LEFT IN SILENCE (v.10) MM stays seeking. Jesus COMMISSIONS her to proclaim (v. 17) & she did, “I have seen the Lord!”(v.18) #Resurrection#Easter
Yes, “Let the women” lead us. If we followed the Gospel ONLY WOMEN would process into Easter Vigil & They wld speak. Thk you @Pontifex_es 4 your reflection. But Pls name the #women - “Mary Magdalene, Joanna, & Mary the mother of James” (v.10) #Resurrection#MaryMagdalene#Easter
Great homily - Jesus & his mother at Cana by Paige Byrne Shortal, mother of 5 sons & 1 daughter. Anyone who has raised a teenager will love this & 1 more proof we need to hear women & parents preaching! #CatholicWomenPreach#FutureChurch#ReclaimMagdalene https://t.co/uQ1CNB0FXv
Dear Tony, I’m sorry for the loss of your sister. I do however, love your reference to the early House Churches, many led by women such as Phoebe & Prisca. In this season of celebrating St. Phoebe, Diakonos of Cenchreae -> only person named Deacon on NT. #HouseChurch
Circumstances outside my control dictated that I celebrated my sister’s funeral Mass in her home. As it transpired it was the perfect setting. Throwback to the early Church. Way to go in the future?
@ntnsndr@americamag Yes healed of 7 demons is in Luke 8:2. But there is no New Testament reference to demons associated with sexual sin, or any sexually murky situation. So why would an all male writing team, & a 3 man advisory team think the rape background story fit? It seems trite & unnecessary.
