@GoBucks140@GamingCentral26 P3:
Don’t forget there IS NO actual game on that disk. That physical media you are buying is an .exe file & authentication cert. it connects you to a developers server to dl the current updated content.
Disks have not had a complete game on them for 10 years.
@GoBucks140@GamingCentral26 P2:
As the need for physical media decreases; the cost to continue producing it increases. Are you willing to pay $175, $200 dollars for a disk? Not a “collectors” box; but just a plain old disk? Because that is the comparison in market share for physical media.
@GoBucks140@GamingCentral26 P1:
I am not moving the GP. I am showing you the difference in market saturation. From 78’ to 82’ the peak of vinyl sales; roughly 340 million albums were pressed each year. That is why they were $7 to $11 each.
The MSRP on a new album today is $49 due to market share.
@hsh1899@Change You’re arguing a business MUST make something to satisfy YOU; vs producing something because THEY WANT TO.
The MSRP on an album is $49usd. How much will you pay for a physical game disk at 5-15% of the market? Will you spend $250?
@IGN You are expecting a business to continue serving a shrinking market that is roughly 15% of sales? Name any other industry where that would be sustainable?
What was your print publication circulation % when you went digital only?
@IGN Sony has sold a combined 93 million PS5s. 76 million disk drives.
16.7 MILLION digital only
200,000 PS+ cancellations is 0.22%
1/5th of 1% of total sales; or 1.2% of the digital drive sales.
85%+ of ALL game purchases are digital.
@arctixmoW@ffswdfcsd ‘Unsafe’…. Tell us all do you use Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music? What is the last album or CD you bought.
Your car doesn’t have a cd player in it!
And your own profile says “I’m not much of a gamer”…. There hasn’t been a game disk shipped in over 5 years with a game on it.
@GoBucks140@GamingCentral26 I am also trying to impress upon you (and others) the consequences of forcing an industry to continue producing products that result in loses. The result is rising prices in other areas of their business.
@AAanuel@gamenewsplusnet Again….. another lie.
85% of all GAME SALES are digital. Physical media represents only 15% of the market.
Stop trying to skew the facts to fit a narrative.
@arctixmoW@ffswdfcsd The point is the percentage…. You ‘want’; YOU. WANT. You do not care about the profitability, practicality, productivity, or direction of the media. Those other platforms are niche elements. They DO NOT DRIVE AN INDUSTRY.
@GoBucks140@GamingCentral26 Sigh…. You keep trying to move the goal post; of your argument. The avg retail price of a ‘new’ reissue album $39. The avg retail price for a new album $49. While the digital streams for $10 or even free.
Apply that math to buying a NEW game digitally $89 vs a niche disk sale.
@MikeyGaymer By the way genius; imagine claiming to be an environmentalist (you) who denounces the use of oil, plastics, chemicals, pollution…and then being ‘big mad’ because Sony is ending another segment of their business in the industries that contribute to that industrial action.
@MikeyGaymer You are a clown, you aren’t fighting for rights. Physical disks haven’t held a ‘game’ in a decade. They hold a exe file and the authorization code to download the digital content (that you do not own) to your hard drive; so that you can interact with content on THEIR servers.
@GoBucks140@GamingCentral26 Imagine being an environmentalist who denounces the waste of crude oil, plastics, chemicals, pollution….and then being ‘big mad’ at Sony for ending their reliance on a portion of that industry.
