The Real Recovery Policy Forum

[Mobilize Recovery @MobilizeRecover]

Save the date: Wednesday, December 9, 2026.

Operation Understanding is going virtual to close the 50th anniversary year.
In 1976, 50 people shared their recovery in public for the first time. Marty Mann organized it. That moment helped change how this country talks about addiction and recovery.

This December gathering is online. People in recovery, families, advocates, community leaders, and allies. The program and speakers are still being finalized.

The 50th anniversary of Operation Understanding marks a moment of reflection and recommitment. The 52 pioneers of 1976 demonstrated that organized, public advocacy could change the way a nation understood addiction. That work is not finished — and the recovery movement of 2026 is its direct continuation. For more information, visit https://t.co/qCyPdXwDIC. #mobilizerecovery #operationunderstanding

You train together. You compete together. You’ve got each other’s backs.

Make sure that includes knowing the risks and looking out for your teammates off the field, too.

NEW NUMBERS: Minnesota paid $4.32 billion in Medicaid reimbursements last year to the 14 programs identified as high risk for fraud. That is up from $2.06 billion just four years earlier. Exponential growth is evident in several of the programs.

Final consensus from the UN Commision on Narcotic Drugs? OD deaths are down because of prevention, treatment access, recovery support and supply reduction. What's missing? Harm reduction. Word is, they're gonna drop that term in favor of "risk reduction." I wonder why? 🤔

[Ryan Hampton @RyanForRecovery]

Ryan Hampton, founder of the nonprofit advocacy organization Mobilize Recovery, said he was relieved the funding was restored to his and other organizations, but criticized the administration for endangering lifesaving services in the first place.

“Restoring these grants was the only acceptable outcome, yet the chaos inflicted on frontline providers and families these past 24 hours is unforgivable," he said. “We cannot normalize a political environment where overdose prevention and recovery are treated as leverage.” https://t.co/V0OwDGXdng
