@Peter_2_G@jezscacuzz Foreign banks aren't allowed to take deposits of less than $150k in Canada, making retail banking practically impossible for a foreign bank in Canada.
@cbcwatcher@LeftHandStu That guy is still around? I'm genuinely surprised he didn't get canned after that embarrassing meltdown that went viral before the debate that never was.
@heylizpin@ronmortgageguy You just got figuratively curb-stomped by a mortgage broker! You have lost all moral authority to pass judgement on what is 'cringe'.
@heylandsberg@AllDAYZ77 Respect for not getting in the way of it airing anyway (something you were always good for). It shows you had nothing to hide, which is precisely what it appears he was trying to accuse you of.
@cvangeyn From my limited understanding, an "Oake's Test" is required to determine whether or not the invocation of Sec 1 was justified or not. To me, it seems like courts are just accepting the justification to permit Sec 1 use without any objective analysis.
@DefiantLs There are multiple instances of Chrystia Freeland (Canada's former Deputy Prime Minister) behaving in a similar fashion (mouthing many of Trudeau's speeches).
@gator_gum PP wanted the budget to pass though. That's why Scheer and Reid pulled their shenanigans.
Presumably he's done the calculus and either thought an election wasn't in his best interest right now and/or that the budget will ruin the Liberals in short order.
Elbows up people need to understand the truth of Canada's economic position versus the United States.
Simply put, it is impossible for Canada to effectively "boycott" the United States. Most things you enjoy in your life or need to sustain your life were created by Americans.
It's a fact that our share of exports to the US is multiple times greater than their share of exports to us.
This means all trade actions against the US will have limited relative impact.
When it comes to diversifying trade, decades of red tape and bad politics has limited Canada's infrastructure and trading partners.
America is the only country we have a land border with. Everything else has to be shipped by sea to trade. Our ability to replace the volume we trade with the US to other countries is non-existent.
Further, large parts of our economy are deliberately paired with the US. Meaning there are no other customers for those products and services.
It will take decades of consistent work and trillions of dollars to diversify meaningfully and many major projects will need to be completed, including new ports, port expansions, new railways, rail infrastructure, new highways, highway infrastructure, and pipelines (oil is one of our biggest exports and it goes to the US where they refine it and sell it back at a profit).
@TaraArmstrongBC I'm not a constituent but thank you for posing this question so eloquently. It's nice to finally have a voice speaking about this issue. Eby's moral grandstanding and vilification spin-job predictably didn't live up to the quality of your question.
