Teatr Ludowy 🎭
The “People’s Theatre” opened in the 1950s and became an important cultural venue in Nowa Huta, particularly known for its more experimental and avant-garde productions.

#1 Baleizão, Estátua de Catarina Eufémia.

Built in 1976 this bust of revolutionary Catarina Eufémia set on top of a stone pedestal with about 2 metres height.

#4 Turn right down CM 1032, Monumento a Catarina Eufémia marks where she was murdered by the fascists on 19 May 1954.

Catarina was an agricultural worker, who led a strike before she was killed at the age of 26, leaving three children behind.

During the Civil War air raids from Italian and German air forces killed over 4,800 civilians in Barcelona. As Poble Sec suffered particularly hard by the effects of bombing, a large air-raid shelter was built into the mountain.

Red site #1 Monument a Francesc Layret. Assassinated in 1920 Layret was a left wing republican. The bronze statue of a woman holding a torch in her left hand represents the struggle for republic. 1/

#Barcelona Red Site #3 Refugi 307 (Air Raid Shelter 307)

We didn’t get inside, as we hadn’t pre planned a tour, but this shelter consists of 400 metres of tunnel measuring 1.6 metres wide and 2 metres high.
