The story of May 8, 1945, isn’t just Algerian.
It’s a global story — of peoples whose calls for justice were met with bullets.
Their blood still speaks.
True freedom isn’t selective.
History won’t forget.
And neither will we.
Today, the world marks 80 years since the defeat of Nazi Germany, a victory for freedom, we are told.
But for Algeria, May 8, 1945, was not a day of liberation. It was a day of massacre.
As Europe rejoiced, Algeria bled.
The bitter irony: Algerians were conscripted to fight and die to free their occupier from its occupier.
They helped liberate France, only to be massacred when they asked for their own liberation.
Freedom was never meant for the colonized.
